Losses at the Forest Service

It seems fairly self evident to me that these various cuts are primarily directed in creating the justification for extending the expiring Trump tax cuts. There is bipartisan consensus for extending them, up to earners less than $400k. Above that, there is not agreement. Democrats generally want them to expire, and the GOP would like to make the tax cuts permanent.

These cuts, and the normal spiel that the cuts will pay for themselves, will enable the GOP to push the tax cuts through reconciliation. This is Elon's pay day. He can afford to volunteer his time, he will reap billions if the expiring tax cuts are extended or made permanent.

All of this proves once again that it is easier to destroy a sand castle than to build one. We voted for it and deserve the results we get.

Great, but why not ask the other 8,999,999 other veterans about their care?

If its so stellar for all of them, why are they complaining?
My sources are people who work for the VA and vets both. Takes a long time to get care for many, and those providing it sure don't feel like they have the resources to provide the care our vets deserve. Bottom line I think the fact that once someone gets in they can get good care doesn't mean the resources are what they should be to provide that care.

These firings, which disproportionately target biologists and natural resource professionals....
According to reports, these positions were deemed “not in the public interest” by DOI—an assertion that fundamentally ignores the role these professionals play in protecting and restoring our nation’s wildlife and wild places.

This sweeping, mass firing comes at a time when the Refuge System is already struggling with a decimated workforce.

One wonders if the old ploy is in play--starve the thing, say it's not working, then try and get rid of the refuge system.

Is there even a doubt?

My wife works for the Refuge System. Some probationary employees were cut. The remaining staff will have additional work loads. It’s not the end of the world !!!! Go to work, buckle up, do the job you are paid to do to the best of your ability. Certainly feel bad for the folks that lost their jobs.

Time to do less with less and not worry about doing a job that requires 2 people.

There should be a lot more RMEF projects on FS land that people can sign up for. I'm sure we see a huge increase in volunteer participation (sarcasm).

These Cuts to Govt. are painful, but necessary.
Trump is rippin the band-aid off fast.
To ignore the obvious & keep on the fiscal trajectory of Several Previous administrations would lead to our ultimate Ruin without a shot fired, exactly what our enemies want.
Trump is taking the kind the drastic action others only talked about for 50 yrs & that no one else had the nards to do.
Remember Greece & Austerity 10-15 yrs ago....ya, we want to avoid that?

Not all refuges are in the same situation. "Additional work load" doesn't even begin to describe the difficulties that some refuges are facing. I'm glad your wife's situation isn't that bleak, but the ones I have interacted with in the past few years were already stretched so thin they had no chance to get everything done that they needed to. Now they've got no seasonals and no recent hires. Is it the end of the world? No. But it will make an already difficult job borderline impossible in some cases. They literally do not have the staff to do what needs to be done.

420 is "some"?

"First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out – because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out – because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out – because I’m not a Jew.
Then they came for me – and there was no one left to speak for me."

Right. Indiscriminately terminating the lowest wage employees early in their careers to fund tax breaks for the rich.

Really tearing a band aid off.

420 is 5 percent of the workforce for the fish and wildlife service i would say it's some not uncommon for a private sector job to cut back that much.

It sucks but it's no where even remotely close to what you are trying to compare it to.
