Was googling some non-resident info and thought @Treeshark and @BuzzH might appreciate Google’s AI’s rationale for non-resident fees.

Depends on the state.

For instance, I’m almost certain I pay more tax dollars spent in the state of Montana than you do. And I don’t even get a thank you!

When I drive thru and buy gas, I'm paying tax on that gas that goes to the state.

When I stay in a hotel, I'm paying a lodging tax that goes to the state.

Finally, I do work in Montana. I need to fill and pay state income tax.

No absolutely not. Just pointing out that everyone pays the taxes and supports the state, residents and non-residents. Google AI doesn't have that statement correct

I'm gonna guess most non resident hunters aren't non residents working in Montana, or non resident landowners. Most only pay the local sales taxes for whatever they buy while we're there. I'm not gonna say you guys aren't technically correct, you are. But it's really dissegenous to say as a whole non resident hunters are paying the same amount of taxes as residents as a whole

Right and I don't believe since I drive through WI and buy some fuel I'm somehow entitled to cheap NR tags there.
