I'm just curious if anyone has ever had stuff stolen from their truck or campsite while out hunting? If you pack in 3-4 days in the backcountry and leave your truck at the end of a trail somewhere, it would be easy for anybody to grab anything out of the back of your truck, especially since some guys don't like seeing out of state license plates. Or if you camp alongside a trail and are out hunting all day, somebody could easily steal anything at your campsite. Obviously a guy is going to try and put as much stuff inside the truck as possible and lock it, but if you have 3-4 cooler's and other bulky items, there is just no way that you could lock up all your gear. Just curious if anyone has had any problems in the past...

It has been my experience that in MT while you are in the woods people do not mess with your stuff. I guess that this is because lots of people have guns and who wants to meet a very angry person with a gun in the middle of nowhere.

That being said, last year I had some tourist jackass walk right into my camp and start looking around. I was in the tent and scared the crap out of him when I told him to move along. Use your best judgement and hope for the best.

Here on the East Coast we EXPECT anything left out to be gone when you return. In the last 3 years, I have lost 4 ladder stands.

I've never had a problem; I don't know if it's attributable to being armed, or a better class of people that respect each other and their stuff.

We leave up wall tents with all of our gear in them, minus bows or rifles, and have never had anything stolen. I like to think that most "hunters" are good honest people...and there is a difference between hunters and killers!

the problem is if you lock your doors they will break out your windows so you may as well leave the doors unlocked. At least you will not have to buy a new door glass.

So true! I had my truck broken into and the majority of the cost was repairing the door handle not the radio. Should have left it unlocked.

I've never had a problem with it in my area. Now that you mention it though I just made the last payment on my hunting rig. I may have to leave it unlocked with the keys in the switch and a tank full of gas when I take off. On second thought I may not fill the tank, gas is to expensive and I don't think my insurance would reimburse me for it.

Never had anything stolen here on the west coast by anything other than some black bears in Colorado. We leave our stuff at camp and just place the main stuff in the trailer or tents. Hope you have honest people around you as well.

Last 2 years in Idaho have had stuff stolen. 3 five gallon gas cans two years ago and last year my shovel, axe and tire chains. I understand if he needed the chains to get out of the snow, just would have been nice if I had them and my shovel to get out of the snow.

I have a cabin in Pennsylvania, never had a problem with breakins there. Tractor sits outside, ladders outside, nothing ever been missing.
