Drought for the west

Just got back from Peck. Aside from the wind ruining the weekend, the lake is certainly 3-4' lower than last April.
Good time to look for chit in the mud, if that is your thing.
A coworker told me that during a multi year drought many years ago he was walking the Yellowstone riverbed near Pompey’s Pillar and found a Bowie knife that he thought came from one of the old steamboats that came up the river in the 1800s.

For some reason Inciweb doesn’t show this one yet which I find odd for a fire so sizable already
Yeah I noticed that and also the reporting was gone on the news last night on the Collins fire. Fri. morning it was 300 ac with crews working all night to get a handle on it , Sat. morning it was 1200ac & 20%,Sat night 2000 ac & 20%, Sun. morning on news report said 3000 ac no % and last night it was not reported on the news with the 2 other fires...and it has never come up on inciweb.
All I know is Jaimie would not be operating a dozer on a fire that does not exist and I saw the smoke plume.
No reporting on it this morning again....very strange.

What day did the Collins Fire start?
Thursday is when I 1st saw the smoke plume & Fri I was in Reserve at mill and Jimmy told me his son was on it and it was 300 ac heading east out of the corrals.
No reports in inciweb or on news this morning again. Same news that reported it thru Sat. and now no mention. Very odd

As of yesterday's reporting (6pm ish), the Collins fire was 3030 acres and 80% contained, with a containment date of 4/11. Sounds like they think they have that one wrapped up.

So where did you find info? It was not on inciweb again this morning or the local news.
Just curious. I figured it was about out, or out of control after the winds we have had and will have into Wed.

I should have included it in the first post, but the Situation Report from NIFC. It is sort of a internal summary of what is going on across the country with respect to fires. There may be a bit of interpretation and reading between the lines, so can't take everything always at face value.

Reported values are submitted at the end of the day shift, so any changes in growth overnight wouldn't be reflected. Costs are just an estimation. Acres can decrease. Containment is usually understated, no one wants to lose something they reported was 95% contained.

Once the fire season picks up, probably next month, a daily report will be published which is good for tracking trends.

I think it burned my downed wood stash.
Blowing 30-40+mph again today. Til Wed. they say...
6% humidity this morning. 5 Below zero dew point last week.

Fire just blew up on the Bosque this afternoon.

Weather finally made it here about 4 this morning. Hoping their call for 20” of snow is true. Though the temperature has dropped enough that it’s not heavy wet spring snow yet. Wouldn’t want to be calving in this. 40mph winds right now and snowing

Too little, too late for mountain snowpack, Im afraid. It wont have time to harden and will run off quickly. Should help with groundwater a little. And should help with range conditions and holding ponds!

I have about 2 feet at my house in Jefferson City. Most extreme road conditions I have ever been out in last night. Plows were working hard but could not keep up. Easily an inch and a half if not two per hour. The mountains around me gotta be breaking 3 feet with this storm, and it is a dense snow. It won't save us, but it is welcome and will help.

What's crazy is 19 miles to the north in Helena, there is none.
