Dave N Elk tag fund raiser

Never thought I would do it, but I did. My UPS guy just dropped off my very own pair of Sitka pants! :ROFLMAO: Found a pair of "worn maybe twice, too long" Sitka Mountain pants, dirt colored, on EBay and got them for $92. Still seems pricey to me for a pair of pants, but I see what they go for. So next year when I show up at elk camp I might look like I belong! ;)

Now you have to get a matching jacket. Otherwise, you won’t see an elk. Trust me, my first lite tops don’t match my pants and I have yet to shoot one.

Then I may be going for a nice walk! :ROFLMAO: $350 for a Jetstream jacket is above my pay grade no matter what the situation. Even used ones are still up there. I'll keep looking, but the pants were a priority over the stuff I have. I have jackets and coats that would work if I can't find anything.

Anything else besides a Jetstream that I could look into? I figure cold first thing in the morning, windy, hopefully warmer in the afternoon/evening, possible wet weather.

Good morning Dave. I'm looking forward to meeting you and helping you get your first elk next fall. A good pair of leather boots would be a strong consideration for the WY adventure. I'll be heading back to WI (that's where I grew up) in December for the muzzleloader deer season and fall turkey. That will be my last hunt of 2024 and then we apply for elk in January!

I bought one of Cabela’s instinct jackets and like it, definitely not a Sitka or first lite but works for where I'm at in NC

Surely there’s someone with a military discount that’ll get you 40% off on that jacket, @Dave N … i can see how the average Joe would look kinda sleezy using that loophole but shoot, the whole “party applications with whoever’s got the most points” is a loophole too, so I’d see if anyone would be willing to place the order for ya..

Initially I didn’t think the jet stream was THAT warm, but after getting the heavyweight hoody for a mid layer and a Sitka base layer, the Sitka layering system really does work for perspiration and breathability. With all three layers you’ll stay warm in very cold conditions

Nope. Not interested in any loophole like that. Just seems wrong. I've got a year to look around for any good deals. I'm fine with finding something used on eBay since this isn't anything that I'll be doing all the time. The Jetstream seemed like it would be good and quiet, all the other features, and had a hood. Not a big hood or hat person but it will be chilly, possibly wet, and more than likely pretty breezy. A hood would be good to cover my head and whatever I had on my head as well as cover my ears to keep them warm while waiting for something to be stupid enough for me to shoot! ;)

I'll keep looking at the usual sites for stuff and maybe someone will have something that didn't fit right or didn't need any more. Spring cleaning! Pretty much looking at a solid color that I can wear somewhere else. Camofire sometimes has stuff but most of the time I can find the same price in other places. No biggie. I've got time.

Thanks though!

I would wait to see what the boss comes up with at the end of season. He said he would be sending you a package.

Gotcha. I was just looking around trying to be prepared. My brain just works that way! Glad I got the boots figured out and can wear them for a while.

I highly suggest the rokslide classifieds starting right about now, when folks either get fed up with elk hunting, abandon the hobby they thought would make them look cool like certain bald fitness personalities, or the true kool-aid connoisseurs that sell everything after only one season to upgrade to the newest model next year.

Other than clothes is there any gear your looking to get?
I think just about anything I might need I can borrow. Pack, bino harness, maybe some trekking poles. We'll figure it out when we get closer to leaving.
