PEAX Equipment

Best vacation deal in Idaho!

If you click the link to view the photos and then go to their posted rates it says nothing about 25$

EG,
I understand that they continue to pay taxes on the deeded land. I am questioning the economic impact of not having the cash generated by the cattle floating around the local economy. ie the local sellers of feed, the vet, the bankers, the grocery store, etc. It would appear that hunters and tourist will not come close to generating the dollars that are turned over in the local economy by a rancher.

Nemont

Nemont,

You have been around cattle enough to know that some bankers would be far better off not lending to ranchers.... ;) Bankers hate feeding cattle/collateral....

There is still a ranch manager, so the grocery store still gets its' money. The vet may actually be a good argument, but they all charge too much anyway....

And if their efforts end up setting the way for managing Water sheds for Salmon on the East Fork, the value of sport fishing would be far greater....

Isn't that assuming the dams will be breached? What if it doesn't happen for another 25 years? That is 25 years of reduced cash flow to the local economy.

Bankers generally don't like to feed cattle but they like lending money on Pickups, Haying Equipment, ATV's etc. Doubt ole Jon is going to be buying anything in the local economy. Other then the chicken breasts they were preparing in the article on their website.

NEMONT, don't expect the full truth to surface from EG or IT. You only get the information that they want you to get.

Ithaca,
I agree the offer wasn't confusing. I read it to mean that actually you and 13 of your friends could stay there for $150 per night or $150/14 = $10.71 per night per person.

I don't care if the grass grows or not that isn't my question. My question is tell me how this place will replace the economic activity generated by running cattle on it? I just don't see how enough hunters and tourist can drop enough cash in year to equal to the value of even 20 pairs (Cow/calf) running on a ranch.

Also not it isn't me questioning your information I am just curious because on thing the WWP constantly states is that removing cattle is good for the local economy. I just don't see how it will even break even, economically, on a year to year basis. So tell me how that is good for the local economy.

Thanks

Nemont

Nemont, Good question and I just getting ready to leave the house, so I don't have time to answer. My first thought, though, is: How much money does each cow put into the local economy? I don't know enough about the specific details of cattle raising economics to answer intelligently. But suppose each tourist staying at the preserve contributes a total of fifty dollars a day to the local economy (that includes the $25 per nite). I think $50 a day would be very conservative figure to use. How many tourist days would it take to equal the $ contribution to the local economy of one steer?

Then we'd have to know the number of tourists staying there each year. We also should take into account the money lost by the Federal and state gummints to subsidize cattle on public land. The state of ID loses about $100,000 a year on the state land grazing program.

I know this would be just a local example that may not be able to be duplicated in very many other locations.

IT, how much of $25.00 per night stay in the local economy? That money will go to what ever ad agency/accountant/board of directors/legal team that WWC has on payroll. Howmany of those are local folks?

What is the pasture grass composition? Green doesn't count either. You support the program, defend the action.

I think I'd rather take my tent and camp out in the Backcountry for almost free! You sissys can stay in yer tree hugger lodge and enjoy! If that's yer best vacation I feel sorry for ya! Hiking in many of the Mountain lakes and tent sleeping is a lot more fun. But you FATASS HOTEL CAMPERS enjoy! At little hiking and back packing won't hurt ya, you don't always have to stay in a hotel enjoy the OUTDOORS.

Taking a tent????

Only wussies use tents, especially when hunting white sheep in the Chugach.

I think two rifles, two backpacks, a pinch of p-cord, a plastic sack and the clothes on your back is all you need.

Tents......

I'll give ya a report week after next Buzz! We are hiking in about 10 miles into the Frank Church and I'm only packing a fifth, no beer! It's only for medicinal reasons though, bwahaahaha. :D :D

Yep found a little Honey hole so I hope it will pan out! I'm sure you walk 30-40 miles but I'm just to lazy to pack an Elk or Deer 10 miles or more! Then I could shoot something and not have time to pack it out and it would spoil. Wish I had yer knowledege of packing in more than 10 miles, and having no problems whithin that distance! If I was more of man like you I'd walk in 40 miles and I'd feel a lot better about myself. I'm just not that fit Buzz, but if you'd like to come along and show us how bad ass you are, you are more than welcome to join our hunt! Maybe you can give us all a few pointers on how to do it right! PM me if you want directions where we are going! I'll pay your air fair to get here! The rest is up to you and I am not joking either!

Nemont and Ithica,

I don't think the $25 is adding anything to the local Economy. They aren't running a bed and breakfast, they are running a preserve. My guess is that most of the people who stay their contribute waaaaaaaaaay more than $25 to WWP.

They have work projects up there every so often, and I think they don't charge anything. But, if you were somebody from Back East, it would be an awesome place to spend a week in the high country of Idaho.

I had the place offered to me, and I didn't think I was going to pay. I don't think it is a hotel.

Ten,
YOu might do a bit of research on WWP, and look at their overhead, and their level of effectiveness. I don't think there is much for an Advertising Agency, as they are pretty low budget. And their legal expenses are next to nothing... ;) :D ;) And they probably get their accounting donated.

The biggest beneficiaries of WWP are definitely Idaho's Hunters and Fishermen, and we all owe Jon Marvel a great deal of gratitude.
