I am constantly stunned by where and to what expense some people will go to build their "Montana dream home." 900 foot well? Dig it. Plow a mile of snow up a mountain? I got a guy to do that. The thing they cannot live without is internet connection. Starlink or whatever tech is taking care of that problem. Mountaintops that seemed utterly untouchable a decade or so ago now have castles atop them, some with helipads. Meanwhile cookie-cutter apartment buildings go up in town and the trailerparks sprawl to house the workers they need to support this lifestyle. It's the new gilded age, IMO. If we want to keep our winter range and access, the time to do it now.Understood. Do you have decent supply of water? A 500' posthole could cost 50k. Access road maybe another 50. Finding a reliable contractor that has a 2 hour daily commute is tough. Then getting through the ridiculous county permit process can take a year or more. We don't have much new construction. Maybe someone hardy soul will invest 1m to give it a shot every few years but most people with that kind of cash are smarter than that.
I thought you guys quarantined them in Austin? Most folks are ok, it’s the hyper determined to save you from yourselves that invariably skew the mix. We get plenty of the latter but Mother Texas also relocates many of the same to paradise states.
A fricken TV show brought people here. mtmuley
That is stupid. Spells transplant. mtmuleyPeople hiking up trails with music playing on open speakers drive me bat shit crazy.

It gets really awkward when you take pictures of people doing illegal stuff. They don't like it. mtmuleyI’ve encountered that and told folks to TURN THAT $HIT OFF!!! Awkward but I don’t give a phuck!

I don't go anywhere in the woods without a gun. It is fricken sad, but that's where we are. mtmuleyAgreed. I’ve taken pics of license plates of SxS’s on roads closed to motorized use and somehow I’m the bad guy.
What used to be a mellow hike with my little girl’s and dogs has me packing a sidearm.
Actually I have one all the time. My wife thinks I am paranoid. She won't feel that way if I need it. mtmuleyI don't go anywhere in the woods without a gun. It is fricken sad, but that's where we are. mtmuley

I have the same reaction when hiking recreational trails and encounter someone blaring a Bluetooth speaker in their pack.I’ve encountered that and told folks to TURN THAT $HIT OFF!!! Awkward but I don’t give a phuck!
Ain't likely.I'm hoping the series Landman shifts the exodus to Texas.
Not feeling confident.
