If anyone spends anytime looking at the USDA/NF receipts on DOGE it easy to see trial maintenance and invasive weed mitigation is not where the money is going...Shut it Down until we can get some adults in charge.

I feel sorry for the boots on the ground FS folks..your management has been robbing the entire dept blind for fancy conferences and leadership training, like most companies when there is a RIF it's the rank and file that have to pay for management's bad decisions.

Some of those numbers are suspect. They want the number with the most zeros to impress. A lot of those contracts have a significant portion already paid out, so the actual savings is much less. I think the majority of people would agree to eliminate the contract without much issue, but it doesn’t work that way. I’m sure there is a lot more contracts in the DOD, but you can’t “shut it all down” while some made-up agency scans for keywords in contracts. Again, this is Congress not doing its job on multiple occasions.

Finally, if you are going to make public lands all about money, you are sure to lose. I may not agree with @Treeshark on what is “best”, but he ain’t wrong in seeing how this plays out. And I don’t know his finances, but I would bet he doesn’t have enough zeros next to his name to fully benefit from the change.

So why not put all these wasteful contracts back into actually workers and boots on the ground instead of just blinding swinging away?

As an elk hunter, I love to see unmaintained trails. It keeps a lot of folks out. Especially those trails that are designated for ATVs and dirt bikes. That said, I still hate to see folks lose their jobs.
The general mentality is people do what they want and piss on the rules. I think there will be an increase of disrespect by users.

Because that simply is not what this is about. It's about vindictiveness, revenge, and pandering to a base that really likes to see others suffer more than they feel they are. Right out of the fascist playbook, pitting the working class against each other.

It's obvious that some on this board are wallowing in the "winning" not because of cutting waste and fraud, but cutting people...the guy you responded to being one.

I think "Fascist" is the wrong word here. I definitely think there are better ways to go about trimming misappropriated funds but i think saying its "Fascist" is an overstep.

You’re not wrong. I do want to clarify that I don’t wish for PLT though, at least not the possible privatization that would accompany it (although that is not inevitable unless states choose for it to be).

I am pointing out what I think is a likely outcome and what has brought us to this point.

Other websites like USAspending.gov have additional info, although that site’s a bit of a mess. Hard to tell the total awarded for a particular multi year period.

Edit: usaspending.gov appears to show a higher total than Doge's numbers for the one company with awards starting in 2021 (no contracts before that year).

Doge may want to get their own consultant to perform proper database queries.

It's obvious leadership in the Dept had the chance they chose not to. I am sure at some point it will. Once we have some adults making the decisions. 60k for A/V services for meeting...to bad its already been paid out...

Not too soon to eliminate contracts for FY '25. Based of the Government Budget FY '24 budget we are spending $200,000 a second..the interst on out dept is going up $30000 a second...let that sink in..

These cuts will fix none of that. Let that sink in.

What do you call it when people are appointed to high ranking positions without Senate approval, and then granted access to classified information about all citizens?

An ideological/political Rorschach test- one that makes me feel very uncomfortable about where things are headed.
