To hopefully get one other person to take action, which in turn might get one more... Kind of a counter to the activity of the pathogen, which operates the in same way.
This is my most pressing reason.

Secondary to that is a thorough analysis of HTF we got to where we are at right now, despite alarms being sounded years prior to this, as well as parsing out reasons the sluggish and disjointed short term response.

Unfortunately the consensus of my coworkers is that we are all going to get infected. Not if but when and how bad. hopefully its spead out enough that we can keep filling shifts. Even right now you can literally plug your self into shifts 24/7.
Hundred hour week, no one is batting an eye

Sure, the majority of these companies are using lean, we just pulled the last widget from the bin at the end of the line, the question is, are the people in the supply chain waiting for their next widget to process their part and increase production, or is the owner of company x still negotiating with a government agency x on which company x is going to make said widget and is government agency x going to approve said widget. Sadly at the end of the day it likely revolves around money and politics, if we just went to the guys standing On the widget line and told them we need to make x number of widgets, They can make them. Just give the system and people the parts and get out of the way. The American workers can meet the order, American bureaucrats and executives are hindering the process, pure speculation, but I would bet on it.

To Be clear, I utilized lean,tps,5s etc Making one of custom orders and could increase or decrease production by over 1000% in less than a week so as long as raw materials were obtainable, that’s on a small scale, push production not pull with materials far harder to obtain than those for masks, gowns, etc.. these literally are widgets we’re talking about, every part is the same, this is what lean is most efficient at producing, just give the people the parts, that’s it.

Even if the US never saw this virus, April was going to see shortages of things given the Chinese shutdowns. Doesn't help to have the guys/gals ready to produce if 90% of the world's supply of material X comes from 3 plants in central china. Speaking more broadly than masks and gowns, but there are products bough and sold in the US using parts that are for all reasonable purposes only made in Asia. Not so easy just to turn on. I don't know where the specific delay are in ramping up but I am comfortable that for something as simple as masks and gowns they are not due to greedy businesses or slow bureaucrats.

For life of me I can’t figure out the mask shortage. I’m looking at one right now,

We’re talking about a piece of cloth, two rubber bands and 4 staples, if I had the parts I could assemble a couple thousand by hand in a day. Rubber bands, cloth, staples? These aren’t exactly exotic materials. I just wonder if the government is hindering the process because it seems like there should be an abundance of at idle American companies able to achieve producing tens/hundreds of millions of these in a relatively short order.

I had the same question, and found this article. N95 masks are made from a special type of fabric in order to trap virus-sized particles.
"We're talking about fibers where one filament has a diameter of less than one micron, so we are in the nano area," said Markus Müller, the sales director at German company Reicofil, a major provider of melt-blown machine lines.
And there's now a global shortage of melt-blown fabric due to the increased demand for masks — and the difficulty in producing this material.

Just a question to those posting and/or following this thread:
What's your motive and/or objective to stay with it?
Mine? To hopefully get one other person to take action, which in turn might get one more...

No bullshit here. Honest question.

My primary reason - To keep this thread moving in a direction that is helpful.

My secondary reason(s) - To learn where others are getting information and learn from those sources. Also, to see who can honor the original poster's request of ...... No politics, no hyperbole.

US and Germany holding their own. We can most likely thank some of the best healthcare providers in the world.
World wide hit the 300K mark for infections. The laws of exponential numbers are going to be ramping things up over the next week or so. Uncharted waters.

As someone who gave up on television news, and internet news, this thread has offered quite a few links to the kind of info I’m interested in.

I’m not good at avoiding discussion if I can chime in. Luckily discussion was included in the title.

If this comes to a fruition it might give us so data to gauge what a secondary outbreak looks like

IMO the second wave is critical to whether our economy is able to rebound or burns to the ground.

At least in the short term, we plan on spending as much as we responsibly can to try and help the local economy.

What medical treatments are the US and Germany using to keep their death rates lower than some other countries?

Today I was placed on admin leave because of my direct involvement with potential high risk COVID-19 subjects.
I've been id'd as a high risk employee by CDC standards due to my medical history. I agree with it. I don't want to get it and expose it to others as well as become a statistic myself.
It is what it is. Bummed though at least I'm still paid, I feel for those laid off.

I know where Froid Montana is. Puts this into perspective for me. mtmuley
There is one person in Beatty NV which has tested positive. Population 1010, now that's pretty rural. They still have not disclosed where he may have contracted it. So unless rural towns completely close themselves off they are still at risk.

I know where Beatty is too. Wow. mtmuley
