I’m definitely in favor of following all recommendations to limit the spread and severity until we get more concrete evidence.

I still have friends in the medical diagnostics industry from my old days in the research lab. They are saying this was not a top of the house political problem, it was a bumbling life long bureaucrat problem at CDC and FDA. People who love science but love process, paperwork, policy and personal risk avoidance more.

I think one consensus that may come out of this is that if the R0 factor is high enough the death rate / and mortality rate becomes less of a factor in that even if its extremely low.

My daughter is working in ICU as we speak so feel free to get down from your high horse. I agree blame is not a useful discussion right now, but if others are going to post and imply then I view as fair to respond.

Yesterday my brother found two N95 masks in his garage that he’d bought about a year ago for some home projects he’d been working on. He offered them to my wife (ICU RN) and you’d have thought he’d found some long lost family memento by the way she reacted. That’s how precious those masks are right now. Just a couple months ago, those masks were one-time-use disposable.

I don't understand why we have not invoked the Defense Production Act to produce basic PPE at the least.

Neither can we. Seems like protecting the lives of healthcare workers and first responders should be priority number one of funding package Congress is coming up with.

Not disagreeing but wonder if the time to ramp up production other than current channels will be relevant. I haven't heard that current manufacturers are some how refusing to ramp up production or that there are any strikes, so other than authorizing new manufactures to jump in and bypass some regulatory hurdles I am not sure what a presidential decree does in this case. And new manufacturers will take time to set up and produce, a timeline that may not fit this situation. But there maybe other parts of the law I am not catching so happy to hear from others how this could help.
