I want to be clear that I’m not firmly planted in either the “this is no big deal camp” or the “oh crap the this is the worst thing ever camp”.

I’m definitely in favor of following all recommendations to limit the spread and severity until we get more concrete evidence.

I have friends still in the Dental Tech, RN, MD, hospital maintenance staff business today.
They don't give a shit who's to blame right now.
They want the system - from the top of the house , through the life long bureaucrat chain - that's in charge right now to do something real. Yesterday.
The senate came back on Monday.
Still nothing concrete on the following Saturday.
I will agree with VG on one thing - yup we still all have friends........................

Actual "friends" are fabricating home made masks for people they don't know.

My daughter is working in ICU as we speak so feel free to get down from your high horse. I agree blame is not a useful discussion right now, but if others are going to post and imply then I view as fair to respond.

I know your daughter is in the medical profession.
I can read and have good retention skills.
I hope the best for her just as I do my friends.
We're all on the same horse, bud.
I do believe pressure on those in charge is a good action right now. Doing what pro's say is good. More than discussions of all our knowledge.
If I need legal help, I'll go to an attorney. That implies I'm a moron if I trust him but don't listen to what he says.
Make the connection here...................

Yesterday my brother found two N95 masks in his garage that he’d bought about a year ago for some home projects he’d been working on. He offered them to my wife (ICU RN) and you’d have thought he’d found some long lost family memento by the way she reacted. That’s how precious those masks are right now. Just a couple months ago, those masks were one-time-use disposable.

I think one consensus that may come out of this is that if the R0 factor is high enough the death rate / and mortality rate becomes less of a factor in that even if its extremely low.
We got hung up on the wrong number.

We should be looking at all the numbers.

I don't understand why we have not invoked the Defense Production Act to produce basic PPE at the least.

Not disagreeing but wonder if the time to ramp up production other than current channels will be relevant. I haven't heard that current manufacturers are some how refusing to ramp up production or that there are any strikes, so other than authorizing new manufactures to jump in and bypass some regulatory hurdles I am not sure what a presidential decree does in this case. And new manufacturers will take time to set up and produce, a timeline that may not fit this situation. But there maybe other parts of the law I am not catching so happy to hear from others how this could help.

This make's me change my - "we're all on the same horse" comment.
We likely know the answer to the why.
We aren't all really on the same horse are we.
Maybe someone can find some data to support or refute...............

The is an inditement on the administration and congress considering the time line of when these transactions took place. Considering how long it took after to both acknowledge the severity of the situation and prepare adequately

Let's not just mention the Republican from your article:

"Dianne Feinstein is a Democrat from California. She also sits on the Senate Intelligence Committee.

In late January and early February of this year, Feinstein dumped up to $6 million worth of stock. When confronted with this fact on Friday, Feinstein dodged. She took the strikingly un-feminist position that selling the stock was her husband's decision to make and somehow she was not allowed to ask about it. -- All of those confusing numbers. It's too much for a girl. Please."

Who said otherwise?

If you just use this thread as an example you can see where death rate and mortality rate is dominating point of discussion. And quite frankly makes for a distorted picture

According to the president who is speaking, because the private sectors have partnered with goverment to make the needed supplies without the having to he compelled by the law.

She is mentioned in there as well. You might have missed it.

Seems some have ramped up their own sewing machines to produce PPE...
