Catch All Fishing Thread

What started 4 years ago as just my wife, 2 year old son, and I camping at the beach, with just me fishing, has turned into a family affair. My wife, now 6 year old son, my sis-in-law, and nephew all caught a pile of rockfish and lingcod. Also present were all the grandparents, my daughter, and niece.

Caught my PB lingcod, my first blue one, at 17lbs. Wish I would have measured the length, but it was over 36" considering it was as tall as my boy from shoulder to floor.

Reeling in his first lingcod! Broke my net haha.

Wife and son out-fished me - every time I helped him get fish off his line, he dropped back down and caught more!

Sis-in-law being a goof with my big ling's head.

The big ling and the big rockfish he hitch hiked in on. I gaffed the big ling, he rolled off my first gaff and almost got away, gaffed him again before he went under and then got him on the stringer. My boy got a front row seat to the show! Epic day.

Big ling was my first blue variety to boot.

Prepping the yaks on a less than stellar day.

Ending up seeing whales, a sea otter, a thresher shark, lots of seals and sea lions, tons of birds, and other marine life. Luckily all of that was on the good days we had out there. 2 days were cold and wet, 2 were blown out, and 2 were perfect.

When we were in Oregon earlier this spring I told my wife I could camp on the beach catching fish and trapping crabs for the rest of my life and I’d be Ok!

I was able to go chase chinook and coho salmon over the weekend. It’s been nearly 10 years since the last time I did and now have lots of fabulous meat. Interestingly, this biggest chinook had almost white meat unlike the rest. Not sure if anyone knows how it may eat different?IMG_9470.jpeg

White kings in the ocean are a little less flavorful but they still smoke up nicely. Nice fish!
