Catch All Fishing Thread

My schedule didn't work out as well as most year's to get on the crappie when they were up shallow but got a few. I've been making up for lost time lately long line trolling jigs. Celebrated putting a brand new trolling motor on the boat by putting a batch in the cooler this evening.

Trolling for crappies has become my new favorite kind of fishing. Small spoons and spinners

I'll typically run all 6 lines out since in WI it's 3 per person and it's usually just me and my wife. I'll put two on 12 foot rods in the rod holders pointed straight sideways with tip of rod just in water. Catches weeds good that way. About 12 to 15 feet of line back gets the spoon down a few feet. Next two rods go straight out the back of the boat on 8 foot rods with big bobbers on them and again the same amount of line out down from the bobber. Basically it's just so you can net a crappie with the rod tip up as high as you can reach. Will put one bobber back about 50 feet and the other 75 feet from the boat. The last two I use tiny planer boards to get then out to the side, back 75 feet or so.

What is fun about trolling for crappies like this is you still catch some bass and pike and even the occasional perch or bluegill. Also, seems the pan fish that are aggressive enough to hit the larger spoons and spinners are typically big ones. Generally it's only keepers that hit rhe boat

👍
I use 1/16th oz jigs with 2" plastic curly tails. Occasionally I'll use #4 or #5 Flicker Shad if they seem really aggressive.
Pretty sure I caught everything from chub minnows to wipers on 1/16th oz. Cabin Creek Popeyes, tipped with a wax worm and in black or chartreuse growing up.

Spent last week in Northern Quebec with three friends. We ran two boats. Boated 626 walleyes. One day a friend and I boated 107. Typical Canadian Shield Walleyes - 16”- 25”. Search for a school with bottom bouncers then jig them.

No pics. But I went to the Yellowstone today with the wife and dog because of the heat. Never go without a flyrod. Water is still moving pretty good, clarity a little better than a foot. Imagine my surprise when I caught a 19 and a 16 bow! That made for a great afternoon.

Yellowstone cutthroat in Nevada. Only stream system where they exist in the state. My daughter and I on our way to the NV native trout slam. 5 more to go.

Spent most of a week camping with the "new" boat. 3 days at each of 2 lakes, with a wide variety of species: walleye, wiper, smallmouth, carp, rainbows, browns, lakers and kokanee.
If you don't mind what state did you catch the wiper in? I thought they were mainly a SE or Eastern fish, cross between a white bass and striper. We used to catch them every so ofter in NE OK. They fight hard. Beautiful boat too, that should last you a lifetime

Can't speak for Vanish, bit they're not uncommon in Colorado

We have them all over Nevada as well.

As Bigjay said, here in Colorado. They're one of my favorite fish to catch, but we are very bad at catching them intentionally. 😅

Thanks! It's got just about everything I could have wanted, yet still easy to handle by myself.

Another fish pic from the trip, cause it's a fishing thread!
