I personally like Federal Premiums w/ Nosler Partitions. I suggest you see which bullets shoot best in her gun. The Federal Premiums shoot well in mine, but others not as good. Groups open up more. I personally believe that the accuracy is more important than the weight. A lighter bullet hitting...
Lot of support for Leupold scopes and I the couple that I have looked through are very good. Having said that I really love my Zeiss 4-16x. I have a couple Nikon Prostaffs that I use for shorter range (<250yds) hunts. They are good, but are not the quality of Zeiss, but then again cost 70% less.
I saw those. Sure would be worth a try if my Zamberlans weren't only 2 years old. May have to go check them out anyway since I work in same community as their office. I used Lathrop & Sons fit system on the 2 pair of Zamberlans I own and all I can say is that Steven did a great job.
I have a plan to overcome that, but so far it has not come together .... get my daughter and SIL to relocate to CO (they love it there). Because if they move, so does our granddaughter and it will be a lot easier for me to get my wife to relocate.
I agree with the 7mm mag suggestion. Can easily poke out to 400 yards if desired. Very good ballistics if needed. Recoil is definitely not that of others, but if too great try the 7mm-08 or 308. I have good luck with Nosler Partitions.
I agree with Luke, try them out with a load if you have that option. Of course your budget can have a lot to do with your selection.
If interested in an Eberlestock Blue Widow, I have one I will be selling. I used it sparingly for a 2015 elk trip (spent more time on horses and needed the pack...
I can't offer any real advice on Unit 53. Only been one prior year (2015) and that was in Unit 24 with fully guided hunt. We have a tripped planned for Unit 54 in 2017 (I guess that is this year now). Using an outfitter to pack us in with horses to a drop camp and we will branch out daily from...
Joined a few months back after hearing of their work. Although most of their focus is the western states, this Midwesterner is in full support. I believe we must be proactive in order to save opportunities both for me and the generations that follow.
I may be one of the few that have shot a 30-06 on a very limited basis. But I can say that the Federal Premiums w/ Partitions shot very well in my 7mag and 7mm-08. Been very successful.
Okay JDH, I am assuming you either went to Indiana State, Rose Hulman or Ivy Tech. (Doubt that it was St. Mary's based upon your pic and the fact that it was all female.)
Welcome to Hunt Talk. Lot of great info shared around here. If thinking about elk in 2017 you best be planning now, especially if going via outfitter. Many are booked quickly.
I'm living about 25 miles south of Terre Haute.
