You know there's a new pup in the house when...

My Lab Ellie kept discreetly plucking ornaments off the tree till she was four years old. She has trouble resisting things that dangle. Sleeping bag zipper tabs were a favorite.

"Puppy" has to check for squirrels in the front yard but my tree fills the window well. She has learned how to slip around it carefully and I assist by avoiding ornaments on lowest branches on the right side and leaving a path in the presents. Life is about compromises ... up to a point. My dogs have always learned what's taboo, e.g. I can set a steak dinner on the couch when watching TV to leave for a bathroom break and it's still there when I return, two dogs inches away staring at it and drooling. But walk out the front door and there won't even be paint left on the plate when I return!20211214_102409.jpg

From this morning.

This afternoon, he did the same to the garden hoses.

In between, he has been eating my wife's new Ford Escape from the inside out.

And he's not even a lab!

We would have needed to remove half the nice handy,at head level stuff you have in that house ,out of the house for the duration with each sweet little German Shepard pup.

I just have to deal with Rio trying to bury this seasons goodies he's collected in my tree wells.

Yea, we're not having much luck with the 'down' command. Mrs. is taking her to obedience school next week.

Luckily our pup (7 months) has been borderline perfect. He doesn't really chew ('cept for a few kids shoes, but hell they were going to our grow those anyway), he doesn't get into anything (except an open toilet...), and knows to stay out of the kitchen (but he surfs every plate of food left anywhere else).

He has stolen the cat's bed.

Any of ya'll use these? This is a two bath pup domicile. One egress goes to the fenced back, the other to a lawn at the end of our driveway. After a few beers I sometimes ring the bell m'self...
Gratuitous cute sleeping puppy shot. She helped rake leaves early this morning.
NHY we trained our pup with this. The wife didn't want to hear the bells every time someone opened the doors. Nor did she want it to look like Christmas all the time.

we tried to start training with bells near the door when she was 3-4 months old. she just tried eating/destroying them, so that didn't last/work.

the older pup on the right is clearly no good at teaching her anything - even outside they cause problems while rough housing with each other.

Gorilla glue and a brick/rock worked for us. The bell was Onyx's personal hockey puck until I glued it to a river rock.
