You gotta love Montana

I'm sure some of you who are fortunate enough to live in Montana hate hearing out-of-staters say they love MT, but since I hunted there for the first time in 1999 I've loved everything the state has to offer. This year I drew the deer/elk combo, along with my brother and a friend, then the friend changed jobs and turned in his elk tag due to time constraints. Since this was his first big game tag ever we decided to return to southeast MT and see if we could get him a deer. After a few days and lots of boot-miles he got a 4x3 and is now hooked, he has hunted lots of birds, but feels deer hunting is far more addictive.
Then my brother and I switched to elk, and after lots of snowy miles my brother got a 6x5 which was the best elk we came across.
Since I was lucky enough to have gotten a branched-antler bull elk permit in WA earlier this year, and so that we could both keep hunting, we switched back to deer. In the last couple of days we spent in MT this year I was fortunate enough to get a 5x6 whitetail.
This was the most time I've ever been able to spend hunting in one trip and I'm looking forward to another chance to hunt MT soon, I hope.

Mule deer in the badlands, elk in the mountains, and whitetail in the river bottom. Doesn't get any better than that.

You guys weren't crossing through on I-90 a couple days ago were you? A Washington rig pulling a utility trailer passed me with a nice elk rack and a couple deer.

Randy11 - We weren't pulling a trailer, so that was some other Washingtonian, but there were a lot of WA plates running around in Montana.

I muzzleloaded the nile and bumping for years. My dad has had the same camp down bumping river road for 15 years now. That bull is great as well.

Ain't Montana great! I only hope to go back someday. I own a house there and can't afford to use it. Bummer! I'm about ready to give up on hunting in Oregon.
