Wyoming range and energy development

Yep, I gotta a letter from Eastman et al yesterday and just thought I would pass it along.

I got to see some of the development and maps of it this past week in Rock Springs at the Wyoming Basin Sage Grouse Habitat Connectivity Workshop. Definitely lots of development going on in that area! I find it hard to believe that the impacts to many resources are being understated (IMO)...

I did find it funny that with all that oil/gas development based out of Rock Springs that unleaded was cheaper in Lyman, Ft. Bridger, and Evanston! :D

Tyler, how was the workshop? I will be headed to the one in Billings in a couple weeks.

I am currently at an Energy Development workshop. Interesting to see professionals from WY and Alberta showing the development occurring and getting the point across "don't let this happen to you". Good group of presenters; biologists, professors, ranchers, State energy coorinators. I do wish there were folks representing industry for more balance.

Oak- Sorry I wasn't more clear; I do feel they are being understated.

Miller- All in all, it's not a terrible project, as modeling can be helpful. But I have BIG problems with some of the imputs/analysis. I'll leave it at that until you have your chance to hear more about the project. Fortunately the office I'm in as been able to avoid the oil/gas thing, but there have been some applications for a few test wells. It will be interesting to see how it pans out. Wanna move here? We could use a biologist (or two)! I guess the one good thing is I'm getting to wear a different hat now and then.

Sweet, first panties, now hats. Good for you.;) :D

I was able to look at some modeling occuring on the Powder River Basin this afternoon. Maybe I shouldn't be so pessimistic about the modeling as it was looking pretty good. I will wait to see how there modeling matches up with the data I have in my resource area.

Are you still attending the other two?

Probably not attending the others. We only have funding for two folks to attend each, so they are sending the folks who's allotments fall into each of the respective areas. Besides, I don't think I could take it again! ;)

Who told you about the panties? Oak?

Evanston is the cheapest place for gas in this part of wy. Everything is high right now in Rock Springs because of the boom.

Should of got a hold of me 1 pointer i could of took ya out to shoot a few yotes or something. Btw, is that elk in your gallery that says sage creek the sage creek south of Rock Springs?

EL

WDH- Would've loved to pop a few 'yotes, but we were only there for 1.5 days with almost all of the daylight being spent inside. I will say the new BLM office is pretty nice...guess that's payback from the boom. I put in for both deer and elk in that part of the state, if the draw gods like me I'll be in touch.

The elk was in UT. I'm guessing there's a few sage creeks around... ;) You guys have any prarie dogs over that way??

1 pointer,
Yeah im sure there is a lot of sage creeks. Looked like the country around the sage creek i know lol.

The prarie dog population hasn't been very good the last few years. Maybe the drought has played a major factor? I'm not exactly sure. We used to have lots and lots of big towns all over. I couldn't even tell you where to find a healthy town now.

EL

Thanks! I've got a big time itch to pop a few pd's this spring with my 223AI! Heck, I may just head over there and work the smaller roads back towards Kemmerer/Evanston shooting as I go! ;) I hear there's a few south of the Gorge, but haven't ventured over that way.
