What is the Oldest Rifle You Actually Hunt Big Game with ?

Sporterized Spanish Mauser model 93, made in 1901. It’s still in the original 7x57 mm.

I have other former military rifles built during the First World War that I hunt with.

You know what's wild is I think the oldest rifle I actually hunt with is my Savage 100 7mmMag from the 70s. I honestly don't hunt with it at all anymore so my oldest hunting rifle is from the early 90s

1st-year production (1955) Model 88

Pre 64 Model 70 (270) that I only own because of Jack O'C (Its a tank, but I'll occasionally carry it)

A few FN Mauser Brownings that I'll take out for nostalgia (they belonged to dad and grand-dad)

I have an 8mm rem mag in rem 700 bdl that was made in 1978.
I have a Hurter's action From the 60's I built a rem 6mm. And my boy has an old Norma 308 mag he had a WB 257 made from. No idea how old it is but the Leopold scope on it is over 50 years old. Still works by the way...

Gewehr 1898 Mauser 8mm Mauser my grandfather brought home from World War II. My dad shot his first deer with that rifle on a big whitetail buck in the Missouri Breaks of Montana. I have not shot anything with it.

Winchester Model 1892 in 25-20 WCF. Shot a few rabbits with it but no big-game.

Remington Model 10-A 12 ga shotgun. Shot a few birds with it.

Winchester Model 1873 in 38-40 WCF. Shot one deer with it.

Remington MOdel 572 Fieldmaster .22 LR. Lots of gophers and rabbits have fallen to this rifle. My son has it now.

Remington 41P 22 LR Shot lots of gophers and rabbits with that old single-shot. My father gave that to me as my first rifle when I was 10 years old. My son has it now.

Wards Western Field - 20 ga. - Shot some grouse with this old sweetheart. My son's now.

Remington Model 600 - Montana Territorial Centennial & 75th year of Statehood - Made in 1964 - 6mm Remington. This was my first big-game rifle and has taken a LOT of coyotes, gophers, antelope and deer. It is my son's now.

Ruger 1B single-shot 6mm Remington. Made In The 200th Year of American Liberty - 1976. Gophers, coyotes, antelope, deer, and an elk.

Remington Model 600 on the left & antelope buck.

Another Rem 600.....Sweet !

Time for a Shiloh Sharps, Grant. 45-70 Carbine would be just about right.
I remember when I first saw Quigley Down Under and had to have that rifle...the copycats have doubled in price since then.

The fortunate part is I have plenty of 45-70 brass and some 405gr cast bullets...also plenty of pure lead ingots in the basement

I've got a Mauser M1891 (7.65x53 Argentine Mauser) that came from Cuba where it was captured from a stockpile during the Spanish-American war. My grandfather traded his M1 Carbine to an aging neighbor for the Mauser soon after he returned from WWII in the South Pacific. Kind of a cool story line, but I'd still rather have my grandpa's carbine.

I shot a whitetail doe with the Mauser two years ago. Great gun.

Hoarder. ;)

It’s not a big game rifle but I’m (and boys) still using my great grandfather’s Winchester 1890 in 22WRF. I believe it was built around 1900ish. We’re at the fifth generation using it.

If it's what I actively hunt with, I'm going to be boring to the nostalgia crowd. One of my favorite hunting rifles is my 7 SAUM, vintage winter 2018. The other favorite is my 300 RUM, 1999?, but it's running a different stock and barrel than the original. I know, I'm boring.

I have and use pretty much the same gun. My grandma bought it for grandpa in 52. I did replace the scope when the crosshairs started creeping to the left. It is now topped with a Leupold.
I can third the same rifle, same era (51) except I’m pretty sure dad bought it for himself right before he got married in 1952, so he could have the rifle he wanted. Have a m12 heavy duck made the same year. The places they have been.

My oldest is a sleek, well worn post-64 Winchester model 70 in 270win, made in the late 1990's. Haha.

My dad has a Winchester model 1911 12 gauge shotgun that he a shot a turkey with a few years back. I think my grandfather bought that gun as a kid for only $10.

But the oldest weapon I still use is a Stevens 22/410 O/U built in the late 30's, early 40's.(later developed into the 24V). Can't hit Crap with the 22, but the 410 is fun for tree rats & bunnies !
I have an older one in 22/410 also, 410 barrel muzzel is countersunk about 1/2'' and front sight has a white insert; not much blueing left but locks up tight and functions well. great for tree rats and bunnies.. found it at a pawn shop 25+ yrs ago and paid $125 for it. love it
