The housing shortage and public lands

But I do know that the more power we give to the government directly correlates to less power to the citizens.
Interesting dichotomy here. Do you want more police and be tough on crime, which equates to more governmental power, or do you want to defund the police and transfer government power to citizens?

The government helping people through social programs doesn’t necessarily equate to “governmental power”. That seems to be the term we use for shit we don’t like and don’t agree with.

I think we tend to confuse effective government with small government.

I don't look at protecting citizens from criminals as the government taking power from law abiding citizens. Actually the opposite.

I'm all for helping those that need it through government programs. But I think we can all see that during covid you can have too much of a good thing. When you can make more sitting on the couch.....most will sit on the couch.

Until you have aggressive stop and frisk policy as New York did for years. When does it transition from protection to overreach, or does that depend on whose ox is getting gored?

The vast majority of graft from the COVID payments was corporate. Like Tom Brady buying a yacht while taking $4 million in gov't handouts.

Tough to answer. How many murders are worth a stop and frisk? But I agree. There has to be a balance in there somewhere.

You just made my point. People are willing to give up power and freedom to the government when they view the return as a benefit. If you aren’t subjected to stop and frisk, and it maybe lowers the murder rate, then it’s awesome. I’d you’re being detained on a regular basis, and potentially subject to use of force because you’re sick of government overreach, then it sucks ass.

It’s entirely contradictory for one segment of society to rail against the defund the police movement, yet want to gut and or abolish the ESA. Both are efforts to reduce government overreach, albeit real or perceived.

Just as long as they’re only stopping and frisking that shady looking dude over there who’s giving me the creeps…. Wait, what do you mean that’s my reflection in the mirror?
When @SFC B gets busted in the NYC subway with a pocket knife are we super liberal pro crime or super conservative hard on crime.

How about the anti-vagrant laws in MA aka no camping? Those shit hole reliving or inducing laws.
