Leupold BX-4 Rangefinding Binoculars

The housing shortage and public lands

I beg your pardon sir.
There are free range desert bighorn in the Glass Mtns and Big Bend Nat'l Park.
TPW has worked hard reintroducing the species.
Yes, but it is so much more efficient and profitable to keep them in smaller high fence enclosures.
Might not be as aesthetically pleasing but it does let more folks get that special trophy for their wall.

I’m probably just extra sarcastic today because I am sitting on the tarmac at the Bozeman airport on a delayed flight waiting to fly into the netherworld of the East. Gonna miss my connection and I already have separation anxiety from my wife and Montana

How far east?
The thrill seekers can pay more to glamp in the wolf enclosure.
Big discounts available for campers wearing bacon pants. Should cut down on feed costs for the pack.
Am I mistaken or is there not already a grizzly petting zoo over by Jackson creek Rd.

You can stick your sarcasm where the sun don't shine. Your pissy attitude is NOT my fault.
You're dead wrong about the DBS in Texas.

I am sure those desert bighorns in Texas would really thrive if there were subdivisions all over the foothills of the mountain ranges. Add in a number of 20 acre Ranchettes, complete with goats and I’m sure they would just be booming in population. Add in some highways that block migration routes, and you have everything you could ever ask for.

I can tell YOU'VE never been to the Big Bend! LOL!

Go ahead! Grab you a couple of acres! See what you can do!

I can tell you don’t understand disease vectors and bighorn sheep.

But, I digress. I’m not going to spend more time trying to convince you suburban sprawl and development isn’t good for many of the ecosystems across the west. Now, please excuse me. I’m going to go eat some lead.

I can tell you didn't read the link.
...OR understand Texas DBS.

Says the sole authority on public lands in the mountain west...
Ya know! Texas didn't come into the US as a state. We came in as a country all our own.
Texas DID NOT give all it's unused, unclaimed properties to the Gov't to manage. Texas took care of it's own property.
No wonder y'all are jealous of Texas! LOL!

Just out of curiosity do you own a tiger?

Outside of having a family to support and all that crap. If I didn’t, I feel like a solid irresponsible semi reckless self fulfilling plan for any outdoors person couldn’t be any better than living in a camper out of random fishing accesses and public land spots in Sw Montana, work a job or two, save some cash for a couple years, and fish and hunt your life away. Sounds like a dream.

Reading all the comments about people’s experiences in small towns across a number of states, I’m struck by the similarities between this current influx of humanity and the oil boom in the Bakken a few years ago. Small local businesses couldn’t hire enough workers to stay open. Waste treatment systems were overrun. Highway and road infrastructure was overrun. Housing costs soared. Costs of everything soared. Bare shelves at all the stores because things were snatched up as soon as they came off the truck. Schools were overcrowded to the point they couldn’t fit all the kids into classrooms. People were squatting on every available piece of ground because housing was in short supply and expensive. Every camping area looked like a trailer park complete with stray pets and trash, and there was nowhere for recreational campers to even stay. It was a nightmare. But this is on a whole other scale from that even. I do worry about the sprawl and habitat impacts. The almighty dollar usually trumps everything else.

(snicker, snort, chortle!) You do know that "Exotic Joe" is from Oklahoma (Wynnewood), don't you?
Eastern Okies are known for being, uhhmmm.... a bit eccentric.

Now I HAVE given some dead livestock to an exotic cat rescue group near Boyd, Texas. Lions and tigers and all kinds of big old puddy tats!
