Task force $1,950 NR elk tag

I don't think this change will improve odds for any of the lower odds/high demand units...may even have the reverse effect as everyone anticipates great odds at the super high prices. Once this is settled, then all the neighboring states will clamor at how cheap their tags are and the race will start to make sure no western elk tag sells for less than $2k.

Overall - I don't love it, but it is a lot better than outfitter welfare. I agree with some others that the outfitters are mistaken if they think their clients will gain much (or any) advantage in the draw over us DIY guys. There's still a lot of elk tags in WY I couldn't write the check fast enough at $1950...and I know I'm not alone.

So, $1200 for NR special deer and $1200 for NR special pronghorn as well.

Break out the check books NR's...
Missed this part, that's $*)Q!#@$ ridiculous and they will sell like hotcakes. Just like everything else. Where are people getting this money I feel a little embarrassed but I have no idea how...

You really think so? I stay pretty tight in my inner circle but I always hear about these idiots lol. Just don't really know any of them..
They are not the people to talk about it or look like it. Probably have all the new stuff, newer cars, and Cc debt through the roof. Probably have obscene payments on their house, cars, rzr, trailer etc.

Highlands ranch in Denver looks like a high end neighborhood. I don’t know the stats but believe a couple years ago the percentage of people living in debt and above their means was one of the highest percentages in the country.

Or it could be the people that their only hobby is hunting. They quit chewing saving themselves $6/day, don’t go out on the weekends, don’t eat out often so they can save their money for their once a year trip, possibly work a second job to fund their hobby.

20-40 percent are probably getting the money from Cc debt.
Upon further review... I stand corrected. The wife's sister who pretty much a lowlife.. Is in the middle of getting divorced (neither one of them ever moved out of her parents house with there child. Blew all the wedding money which was free to them and then maxed out there cards. We're married less than a year and she's going for alimony. She has a new fiance and the divorce isn't final yet. Somehow they have managed to burn through his inheritance and he just cashed out his 401k to buy her a new suv(all while living at the father in laws house)..so yah I stand corrected. How she and my wife are even distantly related I'll never understand. Phew sorry for the side story.

Oh for sure, that’s probably another 20-40 percent I would think and then a lot of small business owners in the trades probably make up a big portion that can afford it yearly and not break the bank. And then there is a group of very wealthy people that can’t spend their money fast enough to lose it

I’ll be honest, I’m not all that excited about the proposal, but I’ll still pay the price to hunt. Heck, if I was 100% certain I wouldn’t have any negative health implications, I’d even sale one of my kidneys to keep my hunting budget fluffed up (seems like I might have to with all these increases … 😉).

Based on what the average person's net worth as retires and that there are lots of families with less than $10,000 in savings to use as emergency funds, I am going to disagree that non-resident hunters are much more responsible and financially conservative than the general public. There are lots of wealthy hunters that hunt as non-residents. There are simply not that many wealthy hunters which will drop $2K every year or two to shoot a 60" pronghorn buck. Maybe once but I am able to pay that kind of money but will not unless have a good chance at a very nice buck. 80 pounds of sage-eating pronghorn in the freezer is not worth $25 a pound before add in costs beyond the tag.

I've been trying to find a boat at a reasonable price. And here I thought trucks were silly expensive. I don't think $2k is going to be a problem for many people based on the boats I see on my local lakes and the trucks people are pulling them with. Don't know where it all comes from.

The government was giving away free money during covid to business owners. The vast majority dont have to pay it back. A buddy of mine got over 100k, just free money its crazy. Im sure people with high fallutin attorneys and accountants got much much more.

Yeah PPP loans were where the big money was made. Pretty sad deal. You really are a pos if you took that money and you didn’t need it. Bet that was a large percentage of biz owners.

I'm a NR hunter to CO and UT. If WY was closer, I'd hunt there instead. That being said, I'm all good with states pricing based on supply and demand and charging NR a higher fee than residents. Guess they will figure out what that economic intersection number is through increases in fees. Resident fee increases will likely follow suit as well, probably a guarantee. A lot of small town businesses in the West rely on hunting season for their survival, so I do hope Western states don't go over the edge and price themselves to the detriment of their own folks. I'm sure other states will follow suit and I guess we will find out what the market will bear. The bad news is giving government more money to spend usually does not work out very well for the people though, but pricing based of supply and demand has merit. Liberal politicians are also being increasingly elected in some of these states, and there is a significant amount of them that are anti-hunting and anti-gun. So decreasing opportunity through fees and pricing out many folks, aligns with their agenda. This is a be careful what you wish for item for sure.

People will pay it. There might be a little sticker shock at first but when the regular draw odds implode, the special will be selling out just like they do now.
