Does anyone have a good revolver grip recommendations? I’ve got some factory rubber grips on my 6.5” 629 and I can’t help but want some checkered wood grips. I’ve been struggling to decipher the difference between instagram garbage and the good stuff.

Order a set of S&W wood target grips for the N frame. Sounds like what your looking for.

I had a set of Hogue wood grips on my 629, but the shape just didn’t fit my hand and whacked the bottom joint of my thumb hard with heavy loads so I put the original rubber back on. I’ve shot a few 29s with the S&W factory square butt target grips and I think they’re pretty comfortable. Midwest gun works has the factory wood grips you’d find on the 629 deluxe.

I say hunt down a set of thr factory 629 deluxe 3" model grips. They will be the good stuff and look darn nice at the same time. I have a 38 special with those same factory grips. When the guy at the store brought it out and opened the case I looked at it and told him go start the paperwork.

Herrett’s Stocks in Idaho has been making grips for decades. I’ve got some for a set of Contender grips that Steve Herrett made and they are fantastic. I agree with ol Potsie about liking the look of wood but prefer the rubber grips when it’s shootin time. Particularly on the stouter guns. Hard to beat Pachmayr’s IMO

I do want a set of those. Always liked the way they look.

I love them. They’re comfortable to shoot and look good doing it. My dad was a Steve Herrett Contender disciple and that’s how I ended up with them.
I believe the son is running the company now. They are surprisingly affordable too.

Following. Always liked the Roper grips Herrett does. Never felt them yet but that’s what is destined for a couple of my revolvers.

I've ordered several different sets of grips from Altamont. I'd recommend you take a look at what they have there - they have wood grips, rubber grips, rubber grips with inserts made of different materials.

Mine have always fit well and been good quality.

I usually shoot 240gr full power loads or my 305gr gas checks. Is recoil really felt that much more with wood grips?
I think it's tolerable and part of the experience to me. My 3" slab cut barrel j frame 357 has wood grips. Shooting absolutely full house handloaded 158 grs In that little gun, you know your shooting it but it's not painful or anything. That 44s a full size one, i think youd be fine if you had good ergonomic wood grips. Ones with a sharp corner that could make for a Hotspot probably wouldn't be fun
