Retiring to Wyoming?

<--- retired to Wyoming. Now fully retired period. East side is where jobs are if you are still wanting to do some work. Otherwise anywhere in the state is viable. Depends on how close to city life you are addicted to.

I envy you buddy. Gonna be following this one for sure. Do you want to be in a town? And if so, do you want services or just a gas station, bar and grocery store?

Winter is a consideration. Also, the farther into retirement you get, the nicer it’ll be to be close to doctors, etc. Those tend to be easiest to access near the bigger cities. I think it would be tough to be 80, live somewhere small like Meeteetse, and drive yourself to the doctor in February.

I think people considering moving here from populated places don’t understand the distance to somewhat basic services and sometimes prolonged crap conditions to get there.

Wyoming is #6 for best $$$ for the retired person.

What's important to you?

What do you like ? Dining? Movies?

Wife and I moves here 2 years ago from NH, its very different in ways we didn't expect. Love it but there's things to adjust to

My biggest prerequisite was will I need a snow shovel and blower? Nope! Not where I chose.

I'm far from retirement but we have mulled a move to Wyoming in recent weeks.

Early congrats on your retirement!

In 3 years is the plan. Buying some dirt now, and hoping lumber comes back to earth by then. Property is selling as fast as it hits the market right now. Who knows what it will like in 5 years?

If I buy a better spotter, I will be able to scout the unlimiteds from my front porch.🙂

I love it here. We came before retirement, but want to stay. Probably will. I was out turkey hunting today. No birds, but the scenery and aloneness was hard to beat.

I used to live in Cheyenne. You can have the city life. Not for me.

You get out here, let me know.

How does it compare to NH? I lived in Laconia and Moultonborough for a while. Was offered a few jobs out there and we have friends from our Military days but wife was concerned about the winters (Wife is from HI, but seemed to like NH winters just fine), and lack of people.

A good buddy was just absolutely enthralled with Colorado! When the day hit, he and the missus blew the doors off southern Oklahoma headed to Colorado!

First morning he got up and it was -10° and 4 feet of snow, he couldn't wait for thaw to head back to Oklahoma!
Didn't take him long to look at a horseshoe!

My "retirement" is summer in OK, winter in S. Texas.
Last year was a bust. It got down to 15°F in the Rio Grande Valley!
