Semi-auto has less recoil as noted. I prefer a pump. I like being part of the process that decides to shuck the shell and load a new shell into the chamber. Makes me feel more like am the hunter rather than the shooter. I have had semi-autos act up in very cold weather, probably due to excess of cleaning oil being in the mechanism which would be user error but perhaps a common situation if the shooter frequents damp situations so does a lot of cleaning prior to putting the firearm away at the end of the hunt.
As for pumps, I primarily use a vintage Winchester Model 12 with a wood stock so pretty you would consider leaving your lover. The gun could tell a lifetime of stories when I became the owner and I have added a few more. I use a Benelli for turkey hunting since handles the longer shell lengths.
