He was always pissed if you didn't slurp his KoolAid, that is certain. :) #82 posts for his lurking self... Haha! Happy HT Forum day, Mr. Tim! :)

Too true John. Too true.

I get tired of having to be assigned a team all the time. I want what I want.
There is a lot of truth to Hunting Wife's post. I think human nature makes us make quick decisions and this leads us to want to place things and people in buckets (in politics left, right, pro, anti, etc) for the sake of ease. It probably originated 100,000 years ago when the biggest decision was to run or not. We all do it, but you will notice the people that catch themselves and listen and think, even if they already "bucketed" the person are probably more successful at staying on internet forums. I think we are really fighting the complexity of any problem and argument in present day. The modern world is complicated and the problems we face are complicated too. Solutions, real solutions, are nuanced and require that we take into account a multitude variables. That is hard, and we fight the complexity by falling back on "this is a first step to..." argument. Any solution isn't going to be best for every individual (impossible), but it may best for everyone as a group (ideal). That is where we run into the problem of "I want what I want". If we could all agree on a general direction (which on a lot of things I thought we did, but I am not so sure anymore) maybe we would be willing to listen to alternative views and approaches.
Like I said, I think we all do it. It is hard to break the cycle.

I almost feel like piling on Onpoint after his password is deleted is like speaking ill of the dead.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t do it, because there’s some real gems in these comments.

I don’t know the OP but I think there is something in his post that might be close to the truth, especially if you have been a long-time member. I haven’t been here all too long, and I have discerned from very early in that this forum is very different from others out there, in the quality of the info, knowledge, and demeaner. No doubt this is in large part due to the tone set by BigFin and his intolerance toward things that would undermine that. Nevertheless, even over my relatively brief time here, I have seen, and at times probably contributed, posts that regretfully not 100% on point. Such as it is with the internet and public forums, and lack of a wayback un-do button. But HT still stands above most sites in the percieved sense of seriousness and quality. I have been kicking around a thought that might help preserve it that way and maybe even help out with the mission of this site. What if there was a $1/month mandatory conservation contribution to one of a selection of organizations that set up a portal on the site. I think an option to donate to HT would be appropriate too. Seriously, it would be a trivial amount to any individual, could rack up some significant donations over time, and would, silly as it sounds, weed out problematic people who refuse to do it “when other sites are free”. We would all get the thrill of seeing more “blaze of glory” drop-out posts, but probably from ppl that wouldnt be missed. The overall dialogue would likely improve, or at least stay, at its current high quality. Sorry if fee-site stuff has been suggested before, I think that making it even $1 a year would still deter wholly selfish people from joining.

I was writing a PM when one from Onpoint showed up in my mailbox with the subject “What’s up your ass?” Funny, cause I was in the process of asking him the same thing.

Instead I calmed down and wrote back and said maybe we should realize that our problem is that we are chitty communicators and we’d do fine in person.

We were supposed to go get a beer or a Shirley Temple or something but Covid has put that on hold.

That’s almost as funny as one of mine...
Those PMs are the best.
They’re like when I was a kid and I had to wait for FWP to mail draw results. They’re like the box of chocolate being compared to life in Forest Gump....
Ya never know what you’re gonna get.

What was up your ass? If you want beer - my garage is certified COVID-19 free. Stop over. This is ranking up with onpoint’s best ever thread..
I'd stop by your garage too GH. I'll leave the mask in the truck. mtmuley

Yeah that guy was a total socialist loser and some days he was a COVID-19 denier, anti-mask freedumb, what an idiot............who are we talking about again?

Haha! He's the one who publicly buried himself with a headstone eloquent goodbye to all speech... He reaps the gems of weeds & flowers that grow from his soil. :)

He is certainly deeply vested, career and spirit with outdoor value for current and future generations. Anyone that knew (of) him is aware of his knowledge and his activism within the conservation world.
***The downfall was his passionate delivery to others.
We definitely did not see eye to eye and he certainly let me hear about it in a few PMs. In the end, he fights the good fight it's just his communication sucks.

I wish him well. Best to ya.

I always tell my young lawyers - you gotta choose, do you want to win or do you want everybody to know you are right - pick one because you often can't have both. If you merely sing for the choir and drive away your potential allies you may be passionate, but you are rarely effective.
