I have a pack rat under the hood of one of my trucks. I’ve tried rat traps and rat poison. Neither has worked. Any tips on how to get rid of it?

There's a marmot in my truck
I was sitting on a conference call this morning with our VP and watched a marmot come out of the grass and crawl up under my truck. It's still in there, my shorthair is running circles around the truck and wining like crazy. I tried doing a speed drive, rocking the truck back and forth, no dice...

I went on a quick backpack trip for bears this week. Later on the evening of my return, while pulling into my driveway in a different car, I caught the faint outline of a monster on my rear truck tire. My heart sank, @neffa3 's ordeal coming immediately to mind. I knew good and well it wasn't...

Damn packrats are just one of many that will wreck a vehicle & everything else.
Neighbors leave the hood popped open.
I am having mesh hardware cloth installed where they get into heater and air filter.
I have worn out rat traps...and mouse.
No electronic device has worked for me. They wore out an electric shocker model too.
Bait stations is what I have gone too around the house. But none have moved into my trucks.
All my neighbors have nests in new vehicles and old.
Dotti has been after the chipmunk that wants to move in today. Good girl.

They sell these at the local Ace Hardware. Can't say if they are effective.

Leaving the hood open works but is not always practical. I use a weasel/Martin box baited with an apple and peanut butter with a 110 conibear under or near the vehicle. I also use poison but sometimes it isn't an option
They can be so destructive, especially on old vehicles that sit a lot and tractors, backhoe, excavators etc. Them and grey diggers are a constant battle for us.

The gain/bounce sheets might work! It worked in the fifth wheel compartments and in the cab of my old truck to keep mice out. I also heard of good results from peppermint oil on cotton swabs but haven't tried it

Irish spring soap works on mice.

Well, I have out 2 rat traps, one small rat sized live trap, and 2 sticky traps. I bought some dryer sheets, but I want to kill this bastard instead of running him off.

Whatever you do, don't sic your Jack Russel on to it otherwise you will be repairing wiring for days!
Put a tarp over the hood and seal it off to the ground and then run a hose from your exhaust back into the enclosure and start the truck?
