More selling of public lands - Sorry

In any event, sorry to hijack the thread to the lunacy that is the current GOP in Idaho, we can get back to the lunacy that is the current GOP in ALL 50 states..... :)

You do have a way in twisting the meaning of a mans words...

Both parties have people with bad ideas and the two parties just argue with each other while they let our country fall into ruin. What a bunch of idiots we have running our country. I think we need to get rid of both parties and just vote for each individual. Running our country should not be a team sport.

Below is an e-mail I sent to my congresman about this issue. This really makes me mad.

Congressman Ribble,
Typically I vote republican but it is becoming more difficult for me support the Republican Party. I am extremely concerned about some information I have learned about Congressman Ryan’s budget proposal. On an ideological level I agree with the intent of the proposal. However, I am unable to support any idea that it is ok to sell off federal lands such as national forest. Selling off National Forest would negatively affect the way of life of millions of Americans and it is short sighted.
There are a few issues I am unwavering on which would cause me to not vote for a canditate no matter how much I agreed with them on all other issues.
I will vote against anyone who supports the selling of National Forest and National Parks.
I will vote against anyone who infringes on my constitutional rights, which includes the 2nd amendment.
I will vote against anyone who attacks my right to hunt and fish.

Thank you for service and I look forward to your response.

That sounds like a message we need to get to all our politicians, no matter which party.

FWIW, there's a whole lot more public accessible lands that do not fall under those two categories than do, ie BLM, Bureau of Reclamation, Army Corps of Engineers, USFWS etc. Just pointing that out in case you would like to be more complete and inclusive of all federal lands.

Good point

Most of the comments above show more voter intellegence than I've seen among other groups/individuals with outdoor interests. I see people concerned with the issues more than tradition. Keep it up.

Sometimes its hard to decide what is best. The liberals want to take away our rights, but the conservatives want to sell off the land where we exercise our rights. It seems to me that the land is more important. Our right to hunt (mountain lions was mentioned) may be won back...its a matter of politics...but if we have no land left on which to hunt then what good are rights?

If the land is sold off you know its not going to be me and you buying it for our dream hunting lodge. Its going to be big business getting it for fossil fuel, timber, mining. When they get it in their possesion, up go the gates and the "No Trespassing" signs.

Finding more oil in this country now will not make the price of gasoline drop. We are producing excess gasoline now and its being shipped to higher-priced markets in other countries, and that drives the price up here. More gasoline available means more exports, not lower price. There are political candidates out there that are insisting that we can drill out way out of high gasoline prices...and people are voting for them! It is this kind of blind voting that gets us into trouble.

I'm not saying that Jimmy Carter was a great president, maybe he was, but one good thing he did was to initiate a program for developing alternative energy sources, and as soon as Ronald Reagan took office those programs got the ax, and now we are suffering the consequences. We are back in the developemental stage instead of the production/use stage.

We, as voters, need to take back this country.

A few weeks ago in a similar thread I mentioned that this site was quickly becoming my primary news source. It was kind of tongue-in-cheek at the time, but you're right there is a ton of voter intelligence here as it relates to sportsmen issues.

On the other hand, if we have no rights to exercise what good is the land? It goes both ways but as a former resident of CA, the democrats are stuck on a concept that all Californians live in big cities and therefore outdoor activities (hunting, fishing, OHV) should be neglected or highly regulated with ludicrous legislation. They shut down trails, input high license/registration fees, and because of some stupid muscle they wont let you put your boat in water without a search and test. Its retarded and all led by the liberal legislature.

Which muscle would that be?

And, for the record, you can't bring your boat to Idaho, one of the most Republican-dominated states in the Union and launch your boat without a search, a test AND a TAX, all of them PASSED by a GOP-dominated Legislature and signed into law by a GOP Governor.

And, if you were to ever take a Poli Sci class, you would know that many of the Democrats in Calif are representing, wait for this, their CONSTITUENTS who happen to live in big cities. It is a pretty simple concept, people elect people to represent their issues, urban people vote to elect people that have similar mindsets and backgrounds.

well put. Democrats and hand outs go hand in hand (no pun intended
Have you ever looked at the handouts that the Oil Industry, Logging Industry, Mining Industry, and Welfare Ranching Industry get from our Congress for the purpose of extraction on My Public Lands?? Those are some serious handouts.....

Are you going to school to be a biologist?

Dang you just said something I can agree with!!! It is selfish, but very true. Especially being a former northern Californian, it always sucked that the "blacktop" of Southern California always dominated the elections.

Now maybe you should move to California since the majority of people have the "mindset" that you do!! Since the "lunatics" here in Idaho rub you the wrong way.

I remember the Jimmy Carter days15- 17% Home Loans! And they say he is the second worse President there has ever been. Obama is #1 in that category. John

What's going to happen first your hunting grounds locked up, or you guns taken away? At least one of those arguments has the Constitution on your side.

Blind faith in a party will lead you into the dark.

Are these the same folks who said we should put two wars on a credit card?

I just thought of a new drinking game. Go through Jose's posts and drink every time he posts some John Marvel catch words. "Welfare ranchers" alone could probably sink an average college student.

Make sure you have the entire list:

  • Welfare Ranchers
  • My Public Lands
  • Fat-Assed ATV Riders

There are a few more, but I don't suggest undergraduate students use them. More of a Grad School type of thing.....

You wouldn't understand...
