Looks like the Indians don't always take everything they kill. The Bison was left by "Allegedly" Native Americans after a hunt.

If my memory serves me correct this isn't the first problem that has occured since the Nez Perce started hunting bison again in Montana. Good luck hearing anymore since this has been handed over to the tribe to investigate.

That's what the article says! Sense they have their own county, and subject to different laws, I guess pointing out who did this is appropriate. It's a little different that random poaching. They were given the right to hunt Bison, and seem to have abused that. If Irish where allowed to kill Bison around Yellowstone, and wasted them, I'd of said "Irishman waste Bison by Park" It's not racist at all. It points to the fact of who they are. If they didn't receive special treatment, for the hunt, I wouldn't give them special treatment in pointing them out. Fair enough?

Here's all we can do.

Aasheim says FWP turned over the case to the Nez Perce tribe.

Oatman says the tribe's justice system will determine if any penalties are warranted.

Nothing happens so there's no deterrent. If it was a "white trash" that did it, they would be arrested, if caught, and fined. This does have racial connotations, in reverse.

Oh we have the tribal justice system also. I think the judges are everybodies uncle.

We had a big case up here a couple of years ago and the troopers (they say they tried? and the state of AK didnt want to touch it.

Went to the local villiage court, a few wrist slaps to appease the liberal press but that was it. We are talking alot of caribou, then it just kinda died out. I'm curious on whatever happened on the "convictions", I may have to look it up.

Not sure what typically happens to Native Americans, but our system can't be much better. All I've seen is a few relatively small fines and maybe a little, very little, jail time.

This guy only got 10 years, who knows how much he'll actually serve, for rapping a 12 year old (http://hosted2.ap.org/MTBOZ/5de3de1...x Assault/id-4f101b8a39564c37aa95f8e7e1624288). If that's justice, I think a slap on the wrist for leaving behind a buffalo is about right.

Reminds me of that case here in CO where them TX boys shot some farmers Bison, never heard more about what their fines were.

If it were me and I were the judge, I would lock this guy up for a hell of a lot longer than 10 years. Sexual attacks are a tad bit different than game violations.

I understand were your coming from cuz our judicial system is so screwed in the head its not funny, but you cannot compare the 2. The OP started the thread on a game violation and unfortunately, indians are more apt to get away with it. Lets stay on topic.

IF game was wasted the perp should be held accountable by the regulatory body that governs the game regardless of the perps race, religion, creed, ethnicity, sex, etc...

Same thing happens down here. Doesn;t seem to matter if the poaching takes place on Private tax payers land or thier own Tribal lands. Seems to me that everyone should be held accountable to the same standard but as we all know that doesn't happen and since the tribes are a self governing entity and the state/federal goverments have no backbone things will never change.

Most likely if that guy does any real prison time over in Deer Lodge, (unless he's in protective custody) he will have a welcoming party that he will never forget, inmates don't look to favorably on child rapists.

Back to the topic at hand however, most likely no "penalties" will be found to be warranted by the tribal court. The fact that the F&G has to turn this case over to them is a complete waste of time.
