Hard water camping

Up in one of my favorite places on this entire planet (northern MN) on a big lake looking for perch and eyes. Here until Monday.

It's cold and blustery outside but warm in the new enclosed SxS we just got!

Got 2 eyes so far, good ones. No perch yet.

This new spot is turning out better.

First spot we had a 12 inch eye and a 21.5.

In 30 mins now we have a 15, 16.5 and a 11.5 inch perch.

Slot here is 18 to 23. Trying to get them 15 to 18. We are allowed 6 each.

What kind of tip downs are those?

Homemade from my grandpa's idea and tweeked and changed over 50 years of fishing with them between him, my dad and I. There are all these stupid crazy inventions out there of "automatic fishermans" and I'll still keep mine.

I'll take a photo next time out in the cold

Why’s the rod and reel upside down?

Just how it sits and it's balanced such that a tiny perch hit will cause the rod tip to go down to the hole. The drag is set as light as it can be then so the fish can run freely. You see it go down, walk over and have a rod and reel to play the fish. For catching big perch and eyes and getting the occasional northern, and it being deeper water, it's nice having that reel. We are currently setup in 18fow but usually we target 25 to 30

Been a bit slow in the dark but finally convinced one to bite. Perfect size, 17.5 inches

Another, maybe they are getting hungry. May have to eat a few tomorrow to open up some of our limit, we getting close already! Great day of walleye fishing!
