Hunted a different ridge today. Son shot the one blue we saw. Other son took a buddy on another ridge and shot a two person limit.

Opening day of Sage Grouse here in NW CO and I’m officially on the board for the 2024 hunting season. I should have killed a pair today, I had my opportunities, but I’ll gladly take the one I managed to scratch out. Especially without a dog.

Trophy sized is the perfect description. Big duskies are as close to a home raised free range chicken as you can get.

They cost me a few arrows every year, but are damn delicious. I've gotten 5 so far this elk season.

View attachment IMG_0365.jpegI always enjoy when I get a red phase ruffed. A bonus spruce hen is nothing to shake a stick at either. (Unless you’re trying to get it to fly, then the stick may come in handy.)

On the way home I couldn't resist stopping at a cover that used to be a honey hole but has been on tge decline the last few years as it's aged. Put my young dog on the ground. He hasn't put the pieces all together yet but is getting there. He bumped this one so we walked around the low ground for another try & I bumped it. Couldn't stop myself from shooting. Didn't see it fall but Rip came back with it
