Ran into 3 alligators the other day while fishing the inner coastal region near Surfside beach including this 6 footer. The population seems to be doing well never use to see this many. Cool to see although I'd prefer not to from my kayak.

There’s a video that went around recently of a guy in NC or SC that was in a tight spot with a gator while in a kayak. I think the headlines and viewers exaggerate it and the guy flipped the kayak not the gator, but still make you think twice about a kayak.

I came close to hitting one with my paddle while in a pirogue last September. It was a long paddle that night back to the truck.

Try seeing two 10-footers while innertube fishing. And then they turn your way and slowly swim toward you while you desperately paddle past 100s of yards of six foot deep weeds to find a little path to get to shore.

No shortage of gators here in SC in the last 40 years.
