Fly Tying/Fishing Thread

Just like bow vs. Gun. We always do a 8 mile fish in the Sierra, always get the sierra slam. Golden, Brooke, rainbow, brown. He Flys for 20, I spin for 100. All good.

Went out today with the 45lb talking and wiggling back pack.

@Hem I fully intended on buying an IonXL, then looked at the Streamer X, and in the end I preferred this one. My dad also went on and on about his new 6wt and coerced and bullied me into this purchase, but I have to say it is a pretty badass little streamer rod. Sage Sonic 691, the streamer/fighting butt 9’ 6wt.

Congrats. I've heard good things about those rods. I think if you were looking for a streamer rod that also can handle other techniques you probably were wise in this choice. The IonXL is a great rod for certain applications but streamers wouldn't be at the top of its strengths...certainly not large streamers...at least in the 6 wght. I would guess the StreamerX would be better in a 6.

I was amazed at how well this thing throws a sink tip and a relatively large streamer. I don’t usually fish many articulated streamers, but it handled a full size dungeon no problem.

The Sonics are phenomenal rods, I have one in a 5wt also. My dad has matching Sage RPLs in 5 and 7wt that he always fishes at the same time for dries/nymphs and streamers. I like having my own Sage combo to match.

Oops, sorry, misread your post. Didn't get you bought the Sonic. I'm kinda out of the loop with recent generation rods. Still fishing XP's, Xi2. I'd like to get another 7 wght...use a XP and and Echo3S now but the Echo rod isn't fast enough for me.

You should try a Zebco................

We fished two drift boat days this past week with a friend. Tuesday was amazing fishing in MT with a ton of rainbows and cutthroat. I wish we had more pics of the fish, the experienced friend said it was "as good as it gets" for the river we were on. Wednesday was hot and slow fishing, but some nice ID cutthroat. And then we did some wading on Friday and caught a few more nice ID cutthroat.

Tying your own flies is like loading your own ammunition. It makes it just that much more satisfying.
Yeah I totally agree. After tying for the last 10 years, I couldn’t imagine fly fishing and not tying my own bugs. It’s a whole different level of satisfaction
