Just like bow vs. Gun. We always do a 8 mile fish in the Sierra, always get the sierra slam. Golden, Brooke, rainbow, brown. He Flys for 20, I spin for 100. All good.

At least it isn't a Bear-- caught a 20lber 40 years ago but hasn't boated anything since.Tied up another batch of walleye spinners tonight.
I call this pattern “The Viking.” Sure to hook a 13 pounder, only to have it shake off at the net.
Skol!

There was an old pattern I remember seeing in a book of flies... Think it was called the spuddler. Had an antelope hair spun head. The color would be really cool, but it might be too brittle. It would be fun to try.
Congrats. I've heard good things about those rods. I think if you were looking for a streamer rod that also can handle other techniques you probably were wise in this choice. The IonXL is a great rod for certain applications but streamers wouldn't be at the top of its strengths...certainly not large streamers...at least in the 6 wght. I would guess the StreamerX would be better in a 6.@Hem I fully intended on buying an IonXL, then looked at the Streamer X, and in the end I preferred this one. My dad also went on and on about his new 6wt and coerced and bullied me into this purchase, but I have to say it is a pretty badass little streamer rod. Sage Sonic 691, the streamer/fighting butt 9’ 6wt.

I was amazed at how well this thing throws a sink tip and a relatively large streamer. I don’t usually fish many articulated streamers, but it handled a full size dungeon no problem.Congrats. Oops, sorry, misread your post. Didn't get you bought the Sonic. I'm kinda out of the loop with recent generation rods. Still fishing XP's, Xi2. I'd like to get another 7 wght...use a XP and and Echo3S now but the Echo rod isn't fast enough for me.I was amazed at how well this thing throws a sink tip and a relatively large streamer. The Sonics are phenomenal rods, I have one in a 5wt also. My dad has matching Sage RPLs in 5 and 7wt that he always fishes at the same time for dries/nymphs and streamers. I like having my own Sage combo to match.
You should try a Zebco................Oops, sorry, misread your post. Didn't get you bought the Sonic. I'm kinda out of the loop with recent generation rods. Still fishing XP's, Xi2. I'd like to get another 7 wght...use a XP and and Echo3S now but the Echo rod isn't fast enough for me.
If I’m not using a fly rod I fish with the same Ugly Stik I had when I was 12. My knowledge of gear fishing extends as far as a black and gold Panther Martin, and that’s it.You should try a Zebco................
Actually I used Zebco reels before your Daddy dumped his load....You should try a Zebco................

It's a challenge to be original. Some members bring out the best.As vast as the internet is, I would be willing to bet that those particular words have never been strung together like that before. Pure poetry!
Yeah I totally agree. After tying for the last 10 years, I couldn’t imagine fly fishing and not tying my own bugs. It’s a whole different level of satisfactionTying your own flies is like loading your own ammunition. It makes it just that much more satisfying.
That’s such a great fishery… haven’t been up there in a couple yearsDry fly fishing was lights out in central mt
