Fly Tying/Fishing Thread

Took the boat out yesterday to start the break-in process with my new outboard.
Fishing wasn't lights out on the lake but needed to run the boat and get a little color on the legs other than pale white.
Should have taken a picture of the bigger more attractive rainbow.....I thought I was on to something. 😏20240601_130910.jpg

Does anyone tie with pronghorn fur? Just handling it, it seems like the stiff hairs would work well for dries or even mimicking insect legs but I haven't seen it in use.

A buddy of mine insisted that he teach me how to fly fish. As someone who's always found the trout-bro culture unattractive I was reluctant to go along with it. It took about 6-8 sporadic days of fishing across the last couple years but I finally started to get the hang of it this weekend.

I’ve considered it for dry flies but never tried it. I believe their hair is hollow and so I assume it would float really well. Plus the stink would be a good attractor

Glad to see the success! Euro nymphing is a great tactic and a lot of fun to fish. Managing fly lines and understanding a dead drift presentation can make things a little more difficult for beginners to catch fish, and catching fish gets people hooked on being out there

There are more non-fly fishing bros than you think. Pretty fish, good work.

It felt like cheating, but I loved it. When learning dry flies and "regular" nymphing my best day was 6 fish. On my first day of trying out euro nymphing I caught 27.
