Deadheads - Let's see 'em

Don't have pics to share but my nephew is in south central IA shed hunting. Yesterday was first day and he and his buddy found 8 decent sized dead head bucks and only a couple sheds.
Must have had some serious EHD in that locale last summer? Also explains why we didn't see many quality bucks hunting there last fall.

Great deer but those timbers caught my eye. What is that building? mtmuley
Old chicken house. Before that it was likely an old homestead. Often when a homestead was purchased or abandon the buildings were torn down and reworked into something more useful like in this case a chicken house. Someone put a lot of hand work into those timbers.

What type of corner notches? Have built a few and am obsessed with seeing how log cabins are built, new or old.

Here you are. On the old chicken house they overlapped the bottom and top timbers and spiked them together with big nails. The rest of the timbers are nailed to two by 6's to hold them in place. On the old Shop all the timbers are squared on the end, overlapped and spiked together with lots of nails.DSCN5285.JPGDSCN5286.JPG
