Dan Rather to resign!

Yep ...most people could not "handle' the straight truth...they want their news watered down...mamby pamby style...like Rather and the other bunch of Wimps.

CJ,

Savage reminds me of a right wing Buzz H. Full of negativity, and hate. He whines a lot but rarely does he come up with realistic solutions. Blather and Savage do have some things in common, however. I don't think Savage would lose any sleep over forging documents if it promoted his agenda.

Paul

It dosn't matter who they replace him with, who ever it is, they will have to toe the left wing line in order to get/keep the job.
What matters is the fact that Rather was caught with him liberal pants down and now he's gone.
Slowly but surly, the the people in charge are learning that the veiwing public is growing tired of liberal proaganda mixed in with their news.

I'm tired of propaganda period. What I do find funny though is that many radio personalities drub the liberal press for their mishaps, however they are just as biased in the opposite direction.

If you watched the news you would know hes not going anywhere, hes just stepping down from the news desk but he will still be working full time for CBS on 60 minutes and other news syndicated programs of that nature.

1 Pointer, you'r right, radio personalities like Limbough and Hanaday lean just as far (or further) to the right, but they admit it up front. They problem with network anchors expouseing liberal views is they claim it's unbiased news.

Well Bighorny...Savage preaches borders/language/culture...You might want to read his book [savage nation] he has plenty of solutions to the problems that this country is facing today...I would love to see him or anyone else like him that actualy tells the truth about whats going on...things like how the liberal press crucifey cops...because they get a little rough on a cop shooting, bank robbing scumbag...or how More americans are "murdered' evey day in this country by "illegals" then all of the soldiers in Iraq!! . Have you ever seen a lead in story or a headline screaming " Another American Murdered By an Illegal in Phx. Today? No and you won`t because of the mainstream "liberal press" Give me a Savage/Dobbs/etc. anytime.

And Hitler had "solutions" to the problems facing Germany. Savage is a preacher of hate, and my bet is he will be off the air in 2 years or less.

What about Tim Russert as Rather's replacement? He'ld be my choice.

Bighorny i don`t walk lockstep with savage or anybody else 100%....i just like what he has to say about some things ...mostly illegal immigration...your right to some extent about him preaching "hate" he yells/screams alot [kinda funny to me] but i hate people who are in this country illegally and don`t want to learn our language and culture.... nothing wrong with "hating" our enemies.. in my opinion....hey i actually helped out a family of non-english speaking hispanics sunday afternoon [super nice people].

CJ,

I hear old Hillary is the latest to take up your illegal cause. What's Mikey have to say about that? Good for a few laughs I bet. Hillary is one shrewd woman. She knows that this is an issue that fires up a majority of Americans, and that neither mainstream republicans or democrats will touch it with a 10 foot pole. She is probably one of the few politicians that could endorse this cause and not get burried by the race card. A middle aged white conservative male wouldn't stand a chance. And that's why my money's on Condi in 08.

Paul

Thanks for the info BHR...Hillary against the illegals?... wow i haven`t heard about that one... that would be a smart move on her part....even 44% of Hispanic voters are against the illegals [AZ polls]. i will listen closely....i haven`t listened to savage in a while he changed stations and time slots in AZ. but thats interesting if i`m hearing you right...is Hillary just calling for more reform bullshit or is she saying enforce the current laws?

Several of the Republican Senators and Congressman are very much against Bush's amnesty plan, and are actively working against it. They kept quiet during the Presidential campaign in order not to lessen Bush's chances of winning, but now that he is re-elected, they are openly against this part of his agenda.

Hey CJ,

Savage's time is even shorter than I predicted. How's Mikey going to stay on the air if his numero uno fan hasn't listened to him in a while? Hillary will transform herself into whatever it takes to get elected. She learned from the best. Keep an eye on her. She's sharp.

Humble Rather earned departure fit for an icon

By Ray Richmond
There was a telling moment in a telephone interview I conducted with Dan Rather a little more than a year ago in conjunction with the 75th anniversary of CBS.

"I'm not a large part of the legacy (of CBS)," Rather offered. "But whatever part of it that I am and have been, I'm very proud of. At the same time, I'm humbled by the fact that I know that I'm undeserving. I know that I'm still working to be worthy of it."

Anyone who knew Rather will tell you this wasn't false modesty. He meant it. And so on the eve of the longtime "CBS Evening News" anchorman's announced departure from the chair he's occupied for nearly 24 years, it's unfortunate that the man who succeeded a legend named Walter Cronkite will leave with a taint firmly etched beside his name.

In the wake of the fiasco that found Rather initially defending the veracity of apparently forged documents used in a September "60 Minutes" report on President Bush's stint in the Texas Air National Guard in the early 1970s, Rather has been on borrowed time. That CBS News allowed Rather to exit the "Evening News" anchor chair on his own terms is appropriate.

It was a given that Rather had long since devolved into something of a jokey caricature, what with his homespun wisdom, his pomp-rich demeanor, his windbag-y tendencies and his overall weirdness.

Of course, the guy has always been a little bit out there. There was his decision to sign off his newscast with the word "Courage" for no apparent reason three times during a single week in 1985 as well as the bizarre 1986 incident in which Rather was roughed up by attackers who reportedly asked, "Kenneth, what is the frequency?" -- a line later immortalized in an R.E.M. tune.

It also didn't take much to prompt certain peculiarities to exit Rather's lips, such as during my interview with him last year.

Describing his love of CBS and CBS News, Rather observed in the interview last year: "In my mind and the minds of the people I work with, this is a magical, mystical kingdom -- our version of Camelot. And we feel we are working at a kind of roundtable of King Arthur proportions. Now, it may be that this kingdom exists only in our minds. But that makes it no less real for those of us who live it every day."

And then there was this: "Ed Murrow's ghost is here. I've seen him and talked to him on the third floor of this building many times late at night. And I can tell you that he's watching over us."

If Rather has been spending too much time of late yakking with the ghost of Murrow and too little confirming the veracity of his sources, maybe we need to cut the dude a little slack. He's earned the right to be eccentric by continuing the quest to be a real journalist when he didn't have to.

We forget that long before he became a right-wing punching bag, he was a true pioneer as an anchor who insisted on continuing to go out, get his hands dirty and report. There have been no ivory towers for Rather, who famously placed himself in harm's way in war zones and the path of hurricanes. And it wasn't just for the photo op.

When Rather assumed the anchor desk from Cronkite in March of 1981, Ronald Reagan had just begun his first term as president, and people still looked to the nightly network newscasts as almost public trusts. In the age of 24-hour cable news, they've been reduced to mere afterthoughts.

But as Rather prepares his final hurrah as the face of CBS News in March, we need to remember that this guy is a towering figure in the TV news pantheon and a man who's earned far more respect than he's getting.

Trust me Paul ..Mike Savage will be around for as long as he wants....he is leading the revolution against the invasion of illegals in this country....he has more listeners than he needs to stay on top of the rating`s...knfx 1100 am added him to their station recently...and they are now the fastest growing talk radio in America....let me know when Savage goes off of the air....only when he decides to retire....
