Boulder ex-cop poaching conviction.

And so it ends. Killing an elk ends up costing 2 guys their jobs and likely changes their life (in a negative way) for ever. Hopefully they learned something from this and will be able find jobs to support their families.

I got a kick reading the comments from these stories when it came out. The candlelight vigils were eye opening to say the least.

Poachers suck!

What a piece of crap and a blemish to the dept. 6 yrs in the prisons general population should straighten those boys right up, that or blow them out. Kinda hoping for the later.

The ripple consequences for ones actions often do affect more than just themselves.

Yep.

We need to figure out a way to actually deter people from doing this stuff. Our current system really does little since the poachers are either wealthy enough to pay lawyers and fines without really effecting them or they are broke and living month to month so putting dad in jail and fining him ends up taking away paychecks, rent, groceries, necessities from the kids and wives who had little if anything to do with the crime.

I'm not sure any kind of consequence would have deterred these guys. They clearly didn't think this through -- at all. They killed this bull in a heavily populated neighborhood (in Boulder, Colorado, no less) took pictures posing with it, and cleaned and processed it. What made them think they were going to get away with this?

They must have thought, if they thought at all, that they were above the law because they were cops. This case really ought to be on the next episode of America's Dumbest Criminals.

I'm sorry for the families.

RH, very well put when it comes to $$. $$, plus jail time, weapons confiscated, also vehicle used to commit the offense, loss of privileges for 10+ for the rich and infamous. Most of these types just smirk and pay a guide after that.
Disclaimer- NOT ragging guides. Just saying if they have the $$ they will find a way, using a guide, hooking up with a group of hunters and footing the bill.. They can do it and continue to do it.
