Are we still a Christian nation ?

What I meant RWC is I see it senseless to scour through the computer for an hour to find facts supporting something that makes total common sense.

It makes total sense to you. You base your beliefs on hunches and are 100% okay with that. It's pointless to waste another post addressing your many logical fallacies and contradictions when that is the case. Have a great one.

It is not. I say this because I believe you can only look at the Elite when answering this question. The Christian Elite were alive and well and very powerful when I stared life. 44 years later the Elites are primarily Luciferian 👿. I believe this is our fault as the kinds of people we look up to have shifted. We are officially a celebrity worshiping society.

It kills me to see this. And then read quotes like this

And then I try to reconcile that with our current POTUS, who contradicts so many of the teachings of Jesus.

yes it’s terribly shallow. To think this is all some people can distill of out this conversation is label associating.

Of course if your for freedom of religion, and think that a distinct separation of church and state is the best way to safe guard that freedom then you are surely are commie pinko liberal socialist marxiest progressive atheist...dont forget Democrat.

RWC, if you feel that all posts need to be made with a link to proof that backs up what someone says, then please provide such information in all of your future posts. If you would like to spend some time researching the statement that I made that many inmates become Christians after getting into prison and finding facts that disprove my belief by all means have at it. I don't have to prove anything to myself that makes common sense. (to me of course :) )

There is a group of fanatics. that want to expunge religion from society, And their starting place is anything to do with the government and their argument is the separation of church and state.

In 1934 the Death Valley post of the VFW (mostly Railroad workers and lung damaged veterans) erected a seven-foot-high cross in a remote part of Death Valley in commemoration of those fallen in the War. IMO more a commemorative monument than a religious statement.

"The Cross, Erected in Memory of the Dead of All Wars, * * * Erected 1934 by Members of Veterans of Foreign [sic] Wars, Death Valley post-2884."

This Cross was erected way before Death Valley became a National Park (1994). Some female progressive atheist Park Ranger (fresh out of college) complained that the Cross caused her grief because it was now on Federal lands. She found some support in the Atheist movement, a Lawyer and filed suit to have the Cross removed. While the case was in litigation the cross was covered with a wooden plywood box. The litigation was eventually decided in favor of the VFW after decades (rumor), Then someone stole the Cross, it has disappeared. Who stole the Cross and why, your guess is as good as mine. It seems funny it happened soon after the radical Atheists lost their case (rumor not verified).

Don't kid yourself, Christianity is under attack by a group of fanatic Atheists, in an almost religious fervor, to expunge religion not only from government but from society in general. The Democratic party has welcomed them into the fold. The Socialists (Commie lite) want to replace diety with government, part of the dogma. The very far left want to abolish morals by expunging religion.

A loose coalition with common goals. All under the Democrat umbrella.

I questioned whether I should lock this thread when it started, but wanted to see what level of sane and civil discussion could unfold on such a topic as religion, specifically the assertion that the US is a Christian nation.

All was going far beyond my original expectations until the ignorant comment quoted above. I can assure you, the next comment that is posted displaying that much ignorance and bigotry will get this thread locked. And, the person posting such ignorance, and doing so with disregard for so many thoughtful comments by others, will be taking their keyboard elsewhere.

To the rest of you, I appreciate your civility in discussion a topic with so much potential volatility.

Anyone who professes to be a Christian, yet complains of political persecution may be well served to do some reading.

Matthew 5:10-12 English Standard Version (ESV)
10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Can’t have it both ways my friends. Think about whether you are being a light on the hill, or a fanatic on the street corner with a bullhorn.

Thank you Randy for allow this discussion to continue.

Few of our laws are based on religious laws. 7 of the 10 commandments are not laws. The remaining three are nearly universally held regardless of the religion in question which suggests they are based on logical reasoning rather than divine proclamation.

Many of the religious laws, edicts or whatever you want to call them are based on logic and/or they make sense. And many of our laws are based on religious edicts going back to well before Christianity.

I'm not really against looser or tighter interpretations. I'm against those radicals who either want to expunge religion or those that want to impose extremist religion.

Most all of us are a work in progress. :)
Certainly. At a certain point though that can not only ring hollow, but it can also slide right into intellectual dishonesty.

based on logic and/or they make sense

Unfortunately, across our great nation whether under God or not. Logic and sense are not required anymore. A little money, charisma, or a little “cute” ball of fur combined with social media and some people loose all concept of logic. We see it everywhere, a church elder meeting about a expensive repair and two decisive objections even they know it is needed. All because their project had to be on hold. A charismatic person with extreme views and yet they get enough votes to spread their view further. A scientific approach to wildlife disregard by the ballot box or lawsuits.

For me it is hard to call it a Christian nation when there is so much mistrust and divisions in America. But yet even with all of that I fought to protect it and its liberties. So have many others of varied faiths, yet we all took the same oath, so help me God.

a bit off the subject, but in visiting other threads just now, I noticed a few broadsides to this thread. Basically how it is not about hunting and how some have not been able to post because of this thread

I just looked at the number of topics in this part of the forum ( fireside ) that has nothing to do with hunting, there are several. I dont think any of us are one diminishable and I have seen many comment on a variety of non-hunting threads.

I am not from your country, but have enjoyed reading the different posts, just as I enjoyed reading the posts about other hobbies that each of you enjoy.

If I see a thread that dont work for me, I just move on and post on one that does or not post at all. There are a lot of non hunting threads on the forum and many of them I read and enjoy

As I mentioned earlier in a post, we believe and give thanks to the animals, the land, the fish and if i had my way to Win 71's

p.s. good point Addicting and it is you, John Cushman and many many others that I appreciate and thank for your service. Many places the men from our two countries have fought together.

Cheyenne, thank you and I had the same thought about the 300 H & H (-: Also, some are going to always take a shot at me when the opportunity arises and that is o.k. I am at a place in life where that is the very least of my concerns, but thank you for your kind remarks.

Yes, just this morning I posted on the "money" thread as well as the "book' thread. I truly enjoyed the responses received on the "fishing" thread and the "festival" thread was not only enjoyed by myself and others but I actually was able to make contact with a fellow in Arizona that shares many of the same memories as I. Some threads lead to P.M. s and I am glad I was able to give "specific" information to some about festivals and/or countries that they planned on visiting. Yes we have also talked about hunting, rifles, and bullets a few times and I have enjoyed those threads as well.

As you mentioned, most people actually not only do more than one thing but they enjoy doing more than one thing. Recently Noharleyyet and I were discussing something far removed from hunting and all I will say is his wife has beautiful taste in antiques as well as a gift for haggling on the price --love her !!

I also want everyone to know that I gave Big fin a heads up on this thread last Sat a.m., so he could monitor it and/or kill it before it even got started if he so desired, as I was also a bit concerned about the subject, but was also pleased with the manner it was discussed over the weekend. However I was not concerned with one thread being able to take away the hunting threads on the forum, nor do I believe it did.

Randi. I remember that movie. You guys do enjoy your religion. (-;

Boy, I was a bit worried when I saw this topic, feeling it could go dark, early... I'm glad it hasn't. I hope my thoughts will be taken in the vain in which they are intended.
  • We are not a Christian nation. We are a nation whose very existence was based upon freedom from (prescribed) religion.
  • Spirituality comes in many forms
Bonafides out of the way- Grew up in a Lutheran family, married into a catholic family, a regular attendee of services (weekly at least), kids attend parochial school.

I try to live a good life, following the teachings of Christ: Love God. Love your neighbor as yourself. Forgive others who have wronged you. Love your enemies. I fail most of the time, but I keep trying.

My next-door neighbors are a Jew, a vegan-Buddhist and a gay couple. I love them all. They are always welcome in my home as friends with no judgment from me. They are good people who treat me and my family with kindness, respect and appreciation. All of them have babysat our kids.

Surrounding oneself only with others who think, act, pray and look like ourselves and we will see the world in a myopic fashion. Live with a group who is different than ourselves and we develop an appreciation that there are, in fact, many ways to skin that cat.

I am often reminded of Mark Twain's thoughts:
"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime."

Blessings

I believe the reason many inmates are Christians is because they were either atheist or something else when they were causing trouble and after time in prison have seen the need for some hope and something positive in their life.

If they find Jesus in prison, then why do something like 50% of those incarcerated return to prison? Must have lost him on the way out the door?

Something else to keep in mind, and something that is on the forefront of my mind now that I have a little girl... 1 in 5 women will be the victim of sexual assault (raped) in their lifetime, and 1:4 girls will be sexualy assulted before they are 18. In a country where 95% of its people believe in a god. Believing in god does not automatically make you less of a piece of shit, it's apparently a prerequisite. Not a big deal though, all those women are lying...

Religion isn't for everyone, nor should it be forced on anyone. I could care less what others worship, and the fact that zealots believe that atheists are the antichrist and will be the downfall of our nation, is hilarious. How could a tiny population of atheist take down a nation full of rapists? I wish it would happen, but the church will just keep covering it up. I find it very disturbing how people will accept other religions, (unless you're muslim in the US, or a christian in a muslim country), but none will accept atheists.

If Atheists are attacking Christianity you might want some better examples than the one provided.....or at least get the facts straight.
