Yes, I still keep a check register

Over-the-top hardcopy dinosaur I am, as not only do I keep a check register, there is also a ledger book detailing monthly major bills paid. When gathering income tax preparation information and other times when needing to review expenditures, that ledger comes in very handy as the info is all in one book.

I'm 35 and have written two checks my entire life. One was for my first year of home insurance the other a deposit for a outfitter hunt. I think I can remember them without a register.
Yup. 28, never written a check. I have a checkbook, but I'd have to go digging for it.

I have a check register, but I don't balance my checkbook like I was taught in the late 80's. I've been lulled into the False security of paying bills online. Some of those are actual checks that get sent to the vendor or individual, though the mail. More than once I've had someone hold a check for weeks before depositing it and gotten caught short.

I really am surprised that my banks online banking website doesn't have a check register where i can enter the paper checks I write to my horseshoer, or the girl scouts, etc...

It would likely improve my financial acuity if I was to go through that exercise.

Old guy here, 65.
Old habits die hard. I still pay a lot of our bills with hand written checks and snail mail. It works for me.
Don't have a debit card either and don't want one.

I typically carry a significant amount of cash and pay for most purchases cash, other than gasoline (so I don't have to go inside) which goes on a credit card that pays cash back.
Don't have a Roth or an HSA either.

My wife insists on it. It does help as well put money in on 1st of month, write in all the know upcoming bill withdrawals and go from there. So online and register rarely match til end of month. But register is the true measure of what's left til end of month
This is my philosophy also. I don't see how you can tell whether you are solvent or not just by looking at the online balance because it doesn't take into account the fact that you have an $1800 mortgage payment coming up in a couple days, or automatic payments for insurance, utilities, etc. My wife and I use debit cards for most purchases so our check register is several pages long every month.

My business would decimated if we didn’t have positive pay that has a secure list of venders that still want to be paid by mail. Mailed checks were stolen or copied so often it that it’s terrifying. The bank literally sends us a list of unauthorized checks being presented for payment and we can control if it’s funded.

This leads to me to the answer on my personal check register. Nope…I have migrated away from mailing checks anytime possible. Things just go sideways so easily and it’s so time consuming to correct, why pay that way? Then…why keep a register when it’s all electronic (one way or another).

Another oldie here. Won't! Do on line banking and won't pay bills online. I don't trust it at all. Costco and Sam's Club are really pushing hard to make me stop but I won't. They don't give you much time to get the check mailed back to them.

false. money in your acount is the measure :)

Well while grew up with it...nowadays I just straight party and hope for the best...don't have enough...make more

My dad was unusual for his age, he did everything financial, electronically on his apple iPhone. This became a problem when he unexpectedly died in his sleep a couple years ago. No passwords, accounts, ect written down. Took several months to sort everything out.

Wife and I use both. Electronic banking and paper checks with a check register.

I may be old, but even I don't see much sense in keeping a written check register these days. We write very few checks anymore and if I want to see my balance or any transaction info all I have to do is type in a password on my phone or computer and there it is, like magic. The bank computer sure does a hell of a lot better job of cypherin' than I ever did when I did keep a register.

Light rifle=less steady in shaky hands that can more easily push aim point inadvertently.

So it makes sense if your hands are shaky, less so if they are steady as a rock.
Fortunately not shaky. Years of abuse has lots of bone on bone. Lightening up the barrel aids in being more comfortable to pack around. I can see where the assumption comes from. My hands are very controllable but aches and cramps set in quickly.

And you assume banks, credit unions don't make mistakes? I am old but of the Trust but verify! We maintain hard register and yes they do make mistakes. 🙋‍♂️

99% of bills are E checks but have two bills we pay twice a year via check.

Explain how that makes sense. Or doesn't make sense.
It was a bad joke - my apology. If you can't write a check for a light barrel due to shaking, it's probably also true that shooting a lighter barrel will not be easy given you can't write the check for it.

Again, a kind of crappy attempt at humor. My apology.

No apologies needed. I might have added that my penmanship has always sucked. Now it just sucks worse. It's been compared to an epileptic chicken dipped in ink. I'm damn lucky that there's no shaking, just miserable cramps.
