Selfie from Hunter’s laptop? Just joking! The OP sounds like the typical opening day of Turkey season on Kentucky public land. Similar plays out on private land during both turkey and deer seasons except the real buttholes are on side by sides or 4 wheelers.

In a similar fashion to what happened to Robin walker, today I was hiking a trail up to this fab alpine lake and jumped 2 grouse off the trail.
I hadn’t even given much thought to grouse season and was completely unprepared.
I made a short stalk on one of the grouse, but the blowdown was just too thick.

Got up on this sweet ridge tonight to do some looking as the sun went down.
Tried to bugle, it sounded like a whistle.
No response.
Hiking up the drainage tomorrow morning.
I hear the ski hill calling my name...
