2025 Garden!

The are basically heavy duty landscape fabric sewn into a bag. My sister buys them dirt cheap from temu.

I use potting mix in mine. Thete is a place I buy it in bulk.
Strongly recommend grow bags over containers and tires or other objects because they drain well and do not allow for water puddling and setting water which might cause potatoes or carrots to rot. I use garden soil that I buy by the 30 pound bag from Home Depot. They last a couple years then have to be replaced but so cheap it's worth it.

One key thing I should add: Root crops like potatoes and carrots do not like high nitrogen fertilizer much. It's better that the phosphorous and potassium numbers are higher. I would not use fertilizer with the first number higher than 5. Nitrogen causes for foliage to grow faster when what you really want with root crops obviously is good roots.

I ran short on wire so have the top wire to run, and then finish the ends. 80x36. had a buddy let me cut some cedar trees off his place that i'm using for posts. Used 8ft T posts in between corners. treated 6x6's were too expensive. Hopefully can get the weed barrier down thru the week and plant this weekend if the rain holds off.

I have one crazy apricot tree if full bloom now. Yesterday morning 21* going into the 20's again this morning.
Had a light crust of snow on the grass a couple mornings ago.
Was getting all itchy to plant something. Glad I didn't.

I've tried the grow bags with several different items. Haven't had all that much luck with them. For some reason the water never gets down to the bottom of the bag. If you see that problem set them in a pan of water and hope the bag drawn the water in from the bottom.

I went to start the tiller the other day and the rewind decided to not work. I guess I’ll have to get that fixed before I can do any gardening.

Try mixing in vermiculate in with the soil and use either garden soil or potting soil rather than dirt off the ground . I leave about 3 inches of space from the top so I can flood mine and they seem to drain to the bottom just fine for me. You do not want soil types that pack hard at all like sandstone based soil. Need to pick soil types that percolate water well.

WhoDoug, I've tried a couple different soil types even potted bag soil. Don't know what is wrong? I've flooded the top but mine only goes down so far and comes out the sides. When I dump the bags the last 4 " of soil is bone dry.

My asparagus is finally coming up have cut enough for one meal and the lettuce is going crazy as usual.

The question I would have is the soil in the middle soggy? That you do not want because it promotes root rot. You may want to add a couple small holes at the bottom and fill it 1/3 or so with pea gravel to allow drainage. I don't have any problems like that with mine though. Maybe you are using larger sizes than mine. Mine are 2 1/2 gallon. I also use five gallon buckets that I have drilled holes in the bottoms and still soil is consistent in those for me.
