Wy deer and antelope: same story
Currently firming up plans to hunt red stag and possibly fallow deer in New Zealand this July with my son for his senior trip.
Really hoping to draw a Colorado bear tag and go after one of the monster bears we have been getting on trail camera the last couple years in September.
Will be doing crossbow for both mule deer and whitetail in October here in Texas.
Really need to look hard at using up my points for deer and elk in Colorado. I'm in no mans land with too many points to just burn them but would like to get them used up so I can start using just a point or two every year or two and drawing late season tags for our place in Colorado.
Would like to hunt pronghorn in Wyoming. We don't quite have the points but came close last year in the special. This fall is going to be a little different with my son starting college. Not sure if that is going to be easier or harder for him to take off to go on a hunt.
I'm actually getting enough points that I'm actually going to have a chance to draw something in Arizona, Utah and Nevada. 13 points for pretty much everything in all 3 states. Maybe lightning will strike and I will draw a OIL tag.
It seems like every year I have grand plans of burning points and doing special hunts, but at this point I always come back to the feeling that if I do one of these hunts with my points (or take my Dad with his points) that I am taking opportunities away from taking my sons hunting with me. My hunts this year are focused on maximizing opportunities to take them.
Hunt opening week of archery deer at home in MN. Also hunt the week of the first firearm season at home in MN. Hoping to be able to take my two oldest boys with me on at least parts of each of these hunts.
Right now hoping to take my oldest son on a hunt in New Mexico as part of a combined family trip. I don't think he'll be old enough during the application period, so I'm thinking we will do an OTC bear hunt since he'll be old enough by the time the hunt starts.
I will also possibly put my son in for some hunts in Washington since it's cheap for youth, even if odds are terrible. Might also put him in for some Texas hunts.
I'll also likely take my son out for the youth hunt and/or regular firearm hunt in Wisconsin.
For myself, I will continue to build points in Colorado and Wyoming. Maybe I'll get around to using them some day when my boys are older.
In for everything here in Wyo and shooting for the moon on all first choices with a high potential of general only, which I'm A-Ok with.
NM: In for Barbary and Oryx.
AZ: Javelina and quail.
KS: Deer if I draw. Birds for sure.
Missouri: Squirrel and fishing float trip. The spawn loves this one.
I'll be doing a lot of bird hunting and training with the pup, will do a dedicated Sage Grouse trip here in Wyo. Blessed to be living relatively close to really good bird hunting. As usual I'll do a few weekend trips in SD, NE, and KS for birds.
