Sitka Gear Turkey Tool Belt

Woodworking Hunt Talkers?

I'm not a particularly skilled woodworker although I do enjoy it. I worked for a used furniture store for a couple years and started refinishing stuff there. I've done it to make some spare cash here and there. This summer I built a coffee table and two end tables for my wife and yesterday I built a gun rack to mount my first buck on with some red oak I had laying around.

Here's a little timberframe. Crafted by myself and a couple other guys. All distressing and finishing done in house by our company. Some of the timbers we milled ourselves on our mill from salvage logs off of a local forest fire. I have better pics, but pretty cool. mtmuley

Some really good stuff from all you guys. I was a pretty good form setter but never did a lot of carpentry until after I retired from concrete. I appreciate the good framing and finish work shown.

Nice work with some compound angles. What is the lighter wood? Looks like it could be cherry but it is brown enough that it could be a lot of things. What sort of dimensions? The scale is hard to guess.

I'm building turkey calls - small stuff at the other end of the spectrum. Just sold two Walnut trees also.

Turkey calls are fun to do. I just finished a Zebra wood pot for a slate call today and have 2 American Chestnut pots in the works for copper, they’ll be done soon. Below in the pictures are Poplar, White Oak, Cherry, and Walnut pots. Slate over glass and aluminum over glass. Simple one piece White Oak Strikers.

Hickory panels. Dims are 18"x 12"x 36" Probably going to make another the same, and one a bit bigger to sell.

Not quite on the same level as many of these posts but my wife recently asked for new butcher block counters throughout the house. Counters are done but still need to finish the backsplash. I’d love to make a bow and some calls in the future.

CB1, those counter tops look awesome. What type of finish did you put on them? I’d love to have walnut counters but I’d be so afraid to spill or drop anything on them I probably wouldn’t use them. I built a bow this winter, it was a pretty fun build. Once I built the oven and bought the glass and lams I was pretty heavily invested money wise. If I was only going to do one bow and hind site being 20/20 I’d probably just get a glued up bow blank from 3 rivers and finish it. I guess I’ll just have to make a couple more though. Here’s the bow.

Our last house from the day we moved in my wife hated our golden oak cabinets. I rebuild the doors and drawer fronts. I was pleased with how they turned out. If I did this again I would definitely buy a router bit set to do the cutting, it got pretty old on the table saw. When we put the hardware on it really looked nice. We sold the house shortly after I finished haha.

Thanks ZBB. I was a bit worried about having walnut and being afraid to use it but after the first thing was dropped on them I got over it. Finished it with General Finishes Arm-R-Seal which has held up well for me.

Good looking bow! Looks like it shoots well also.

Redoing cabinets can be a chore. Especially if you ended up moving shortly after. I think we will be in the same boat next year. I may have finally convinced my wife to move up north to either Montana or Idaho. I’m sure that will mean more woodworking projects for me. Hopefully won’t limit hunting time too much.

Thanks, it shoots well as long as I don’t botch the shot. More projects means more time in the shop! Good luck on the move

A few pictures of my latest project: a bar. I brew beer, might as well make a bar to go with it. I started this project a couple years ago but didn't get far before a bathroom remodel took priority. Finally able to work on the bar again.

The wood is Peroba Rosa from the Atlantic coast of Brazil. This wood is recycled siding from a house in Brazil. When you apply a finish oil the grain is unlike any I've ever seen. I'll post pics when the bar is finished.

Still looking for the right antique corbels for the front but as done as I'll get it for now. The lighting doesn't do the wood justice.

In the middle of a house renovation and adding some simple woodworking projects. Most of the house was pulled down to the studs. Decided to go with butcherblock counter tops and giving the kitchen cabinets a facelift. Still have a long way to go, but you can see some progress now.

Will be fun to see the finished work.
