Whats your most accurate rifle?

I must be doin something wrong if everyone can shoot factory rifles with cheap ammo 1/4"-1/2" "all day". These PRS guys and competitive shooters should all sell their $8000 rigs and buy Ruger Americans or Savages it sounds like. Surprisingly, my most accurate rifle is a .338 Lapua. It is capable of 1/2 MOA 3-shot groups if I do my part. It doesn't get much range time though as reloads still cost about $3 every time it goes bang.

In my experience, factory gun untouched, and factory ammo combining to shoot under .75" moa is hard to find. Floating barrels, action bedding, new stocks, trigger tweaks/swaps, thicker and higher quality barrels and carefully tuned handloading are bits and pieces (not always all of them, just what the situation needs) that credibly get folks sub .5" if using real statistics. But then again, there certainly better marksmen than me out there. YMMV.

Ours is also our cheapest. My sons' TC Venture in .308 is a tack driver. It shoots everything well and load development is always a breeze, but the best load I've found for it is one using Varget and 165 ballistic tips that was under 1/2".

I’ve got a Weatherby Vanguard (circa 1975) in .243 that will put 5 shots in a jagged hole, covered by a dime. Unfortunately, it never seems to do that well when I’m driving it, but I have seen good shooters do it repeatedly.

Honest 1/2" 5 shot groups all day long bone stock rifle... FN SPR in .308. Burris 3x10x50 scope on cheap azz weaver mounts. The only thing I have done was adjust the trigger down to 2 pounds. No bedding. My handloads. It just plain flat out shoots. I even have a few targets from back in the day when I was shooting 3 times a week and achieved sub 1/4 in 5 shot groups.

I have quite a few Model 70's that shoot sub MOA as well, but I have bedded every one of them. Best of those is a 1949 in .270 with a 4x Burris. I shoot that rifle better than the ones with a variable scope.

I’ve had a fair number of rifles that would put up .25 MOA groups with regularity. Not all had custom barrels. Two Sako’s did it as they came from the factory. The rest were Rem 700’s. Not all the 700’s had custom barrels, but all of them had been rechambered.

Three shots at 200yds. I only loaded three. A part of me wished I could have finished a 5-shot group and a part of me was glad I didn’t have an opportunity to ruin it. If it was five shots in a sanctioned match it would be a new world record.

Most accurate I ever had was a 788 Rem in 222 Rem. Honest 1/4" rifle! Had a 7mm Rem Mag at the same time, Sako L61R that hung just over 1/2" like clock work. I shot a lot better in those days, long time ago. Today my best would be a toss up between two 243's and my 6.5x06, depending on the bullet in the 6.5x06. All three run consistently right at 1/2"! Best group I ever shot though came from my 25-06 using a 100gr Sierra Match bullet. .111" at 100yds. Couldn't tell there wasmore than one hole in the target through the scope, 3-9x set at 9x. So shot an extra at another spot and sure enough hit that spot. Had to be right at the target to notice the hole was just a bit out of round. Took that rifle home and have never shot it again to today, didn't want to jinx myself! Used that rifle for deer quite a bit with 117gr Hornady's and it kept them right under 3/4". Wish I could find another 788 in 222 Rem, boy was that a shooter!

Tough to say for sure as I don't and never really have, tried to wring out every last ounce of accuracy. I hunt mostly and never have shot in matches, etc.

But, this was a 5-shot group out of my 7-08. Rem 700 with a pacnor #2 contour.

Also, the only 5 shots I have ever shot through my rifle with that particular load.

Shot this group one day with my 7RM (factory barrel, bedded, timney trigger, and handloads) 300 yards, 3 shots.

All my rifles shoot well, or I make changes so they do.

My most accurate rifle is a completely stock Savage 116 Weather Warrior in 7mm Rem Mag with the Accustock. If I do my part (which I usually don’t) three shot groups at 100 can look like this:

We're talking precision not accuracy from the get go on this thread so I'll stick with that. I don't fuss with them much once they'll consistently do 5 shot groups under an inch, and/or 10 shot groups about 1.25" or under. Lots of people would be surprised what their 10 shot groups look like. The pursuit of precision is valuable in learning how much different variables matter, and is fun in an ocd sense. It also takes time, which is my most scarce resource.

Current most accurate is a custom 6/250 on an old CM 700 with a mtn rifle contour pac nor. 5 shot groups consistently in the .8-.9 range. I've had Tikka's in .260, 6.5C, .270, .308, and .243, and none were far behind. Some right there with it.

That's a good point, I've only ever gone 5 shot groups, I bet 10 does open that up quite a bit.

So far my Savage Axis 2 in 7mm-08 is my most accurate with Hornady Superformance 139 GMX ammo. That said I have a couple of recent acquisitions that I have not shot yet. Expecting them to be shooters.

Update (3/14/2021): I have been shooting a few of my different rifles and as of right now my most accurate appears to be my Weatherby Vanguard in 25-06 shooting either Hornady American Whitetail 117 gr. Interlock and Federal 100 gr. Trophy Copper. Dare I say the Savage 110 6.5 Creedmoor is in second, but honestly that is for my step daughter to shoot I have also been getting decent groups from my Winchester XPR 30-06 and my Ruger American is all set to kill whitetail in NY at 100 yards without issue. Need to shoot both 06s at 200 to dial them in better. 308 is dialed for 100 yards considering Upstate NY whitetail are not often shot beyond that range, trees get in the way.
