What's your elk rifle and cartridge?

Don't have pics, but I'm hanging up my Dad's old Remington 700 in .270 and moved on a Howa 1500 .30-06 topped with a Vortex Diamondback. Practicing with the Federal AccuBond at 150gr.

Ruger 77 in 338 mins mag with hand loaded 225 Barnes ttsx. Only shot one elk with it but it works real good on bear! Did a great job on the elk too

Currently using 1 of 3 rifles sorry no pics...Rem 700 CDL in 7mm-08 with VX3i 3.5-10x40CDS OR Win70 in 270win with VX3 3.5-10x40CDS OR Savage 10 300WSM with Vortex HS-T 4-16x44. I was going to retire the 270 and 300WSM and buy a Rem700AWR in 300RUM (make nonlead bullets go fast plus have a cerakoted rifle for wet weather) but haven't gotten around to it.

Remington 700 in .300WM. Brought it as my "out West everything" gun when I moved to Colorado 8 years ago. It has liked the Hornady Superformance line from day one, and for the past three seasons the only thing I've fed it has been 165gn GMX. No complaints on three bulls with that combo.

Going to revive my first big-game rifle, a ruger m77 tanger in 6mm Rem. Getting a new pacnor barrel installed chambered for the 6mm Remington again, I'm refinishing the stock right now, going to get a new scope, bed, float, etc. Hope to get it back to the glory days...I killed a boat load of game with it.

I intend to use it as my primary cow elk hunting rifle starting this fall.

Also, if anyone with Nosler is reading this...a 100-105 grain .243 accubond wouldn't suck...

Buzz,,, That could be a photo of my first deer, 6mm M77 topped with a old Weaver. Past that gun down to my sister and I was upgraded to a 7x57 M77 topped with a 4x Leupold. Yup, good Ol' boat paddle stocked rugers!

Now, the rifle, just depends on what I want to carry or have been playing with before I hit the hills. That is if I'm not packing a bow!

Thoughts on barrel profile and twist?

My first elk rifle was a Remington 710 in 30-06 with the Bushnell 3x9x40 that came on it. It is what I have taken the two elk I have gotten to this point with. The set screw into the receiver sheared off just prior to my first antelope and the $$$$ to fix it versus what it costs led me to an upgrade. I got a used Savage 110, still in '06, and topped it with a Vortex Viper HS 4x16x44. I shoot 180 gr Trophy Bonded Tips and here are a couple of animals taken with it, my first muley and 2017 bear.

Mthntr,

1-8 twist 3R, factory duplicate the barrel profile (about a #1 contour)...add one inch to finish at 23".

Try to treat this barrel better than the original, which shot very well. Used it for shooting gophers and had the barrel hot enough to light a marlboro off it several times.

I reckon I've got no fewer than 8 thousand rounds through it and surprised it didn't start throwing fliers before it did considering how I treated it.

My first hunting rifle: Tikka t3x lite in 7mm rem mag with a Leupold vx-3i 4.5-14x40. Shooting handloads 140gr accubonds @ 3350 fps. Only has shot one mule deer doe @150yds and one cow elk @350yds, both of which were double lung shots that dropped. Love this thing!
