I assume we are kicking out shotguns and rimfires. I think I would pick 7mm08 and 300 win mag. The runners up would be .270 and .338 mag.

Hard to argue with those choices!!

Of course, I'm a bit partial to the .280, but it is so close to the 7mm08 and 270 that there's no practical difference.

What I have: 22-250, 6mm, 25/06, 30/06, 338, 7RM, 7/08...

If I could pick only one it would be 7/08 to cover it all, but could make do with any 2 between .243-338.

Because of our strict rules in the UK i am limited (could probably get another calibre but its not worth the hassle) but i have a .243 and 30-06 and love the combination.
.243 for fox and deer
30-06 for deer and Montana Elk

I had to chuckle reading your reply. I obviously don't need another caliber with the 6.5 x .284 and the .300 WSM pretty much have it covered. That said, I am trying to talk myself into a new rifle and have to agree it is pretty much based on "imaginary need", LOL.

For years I have been shooting primarily the .270 WSM with 140 grain accubonds, and if you take out the big maneating bears, I think it would work well for all North American game. My second would be the .243 WSSM, been working on loads for years and it is a flat shooting screamer with anything from 58 gr VMax, 90 gr Accubond and 105 grain Hornady's.

Do also agree with Buzz...the 7mm08 can really get it done and is fun and pleasant to shoot. Wife and kids have done well with the 7mm-08

6mm Remington and 8X62 Durham Magnum. Should be good for anything on this continent. Since I only shoot my own ammo, supply isn't an issue.

Right now, hunting arsenal includes .243, .308, .300 WM, .338 WM.

Thinking of adding a mid caliber - .260 / .270 / 6.5X284. Something along those lines.

Picking 2 right now would be .243 and .300 WM.
