I'd like to point out that that study I linked concluded that, "Free-ranging cats cause substantially greater wildlife mortality than previously thought." that is not referencing feral, but outdoor or indoor/outdoor cats.

I'll also mention I hate my cat. I mean he's nice and all, at least sometimes, but he kills birds all the time. I genuinely would enjoy cats if they didn't kill song birds. Our next cat (because I up and had the bait and switch pulled on me by my wife on this one) will not be allowed outside, no matter what (though I also think that is horrendously inhumane to the cat, to effectively be locked in a cage unable to actually be a cat).

Guys taking every opportunity to let everyone know that they hate cats reminds me of middle schoolers saying "no homo" after every statement to ward off dicks magically flying into their mouth.
The social phenomenon of hating cats has nothing to do with migratory birds and everything to do with "looking and acting cool"... it makes no sense.

Both these comments capture it for me imo/e

Big "Uncomfortable buying tampons for my wife at the grocery store" energy and I can't help but poke fun at it

Had a stray show up a couple years ago. After two days of sleeping on the front steps she came inside and basically has claimed almost everything as hers. I swore my younger lab would kill her but instead they’re best friends. No idea why someone got rid of her but she’s well behaved, does her business outdoors, and is inept as a hunter.

Not sure liking one over the other is little man syndrome. We’ve had 3 cats in our house. I can’t stand them in the house. I’ve tried really hard to but I just can’t. They don’t bother me when I’m at friends house and I completely respect people that are more cat people as I have several friends that way. I can put up with my old labs rotten farts as gross as they are or other poor dog habits but can’t do cats and their weird behavior and their shits that smell like something from another planet. We’re all wired differently I guess.

I understand that cats eat a lot of birds, but anecdotally, we always had 6-10 barn cats on the place while I was growing up. Between their take and my 12 year year-round air rifle safari, we never made a noticeable dent in the tweety population despite our best effort. 🤷🏻‍♂️😄

Bird watchers have a "life list". I had a death list. We also had barn cats. There were a couple big old owly earless tom cats my mother had me execute, as she was afraid of them. I don't kill cats, or tweety birds anymore. There are few birds in existence, outside birds of prey that didn't fall to one of my .177 pellets during the late 70s and early 80s. If i'd kept a journal of confirmed tweety bird kills, psychiatrists would have predicted me to become a serial killer. Cats are the only animal that really hate me. They have a 6th sense.

This makes me feel so much better about the robin I “accidentally” shot in my neighbors yard when I was like 10.
I hope he doesn’t see the post.

The ability to travel is one of the reasons we don't have certain types of pets/livestock. If you seriously want to travel then it's only responsible to own pets that are compatible with your lifestyle.

Do I want llamas? Yes. Would it be easy to pickup on a friday and go the beach for the weekend? No. So we don't have llamas.
X2 Ultimately this was my wife’s selling point on a corgi. For a $100 fee he flys in the cabin anywhere in the US or Canada, no dealing with cargo issue/health worries or the service animal bs…
