A 3x9 Redfield Widefield would be my recommendation.Want to put a scope on my grandads 742 30-06 like to but a classic look to kinds match the era it was built and used most in 70-80 gloss or matte
Dones not really matter
And suggestions thoughts
Thanks
The non CDS turret version of the freedoms are good looking scopes for the "classic" look. I agree. You didn't say where you hunt. I have the same rifle and it wore a Weaver K2.5 for decades. My dad was wicked with that rifle on moving deer in the thick stuff. It now wears a Nikon red-ring 3x9. I've been thinking recently I need to go back to a lower power scope. I have a high-end 2-8x42 for the job, but it's on my granddaughter's rifle.
I still have the K2.5, but is sitting on a Ruger 10/22. The optics struggle is real.
The 742 does its best work as a fast rifle up close. A variable is fine, but keep the minimum power as low as possible. If you like the look of them, an LPVO is a good way to go.
Some people frown on using a retailer's search tools and then not buying from them. I don't. Midway gets plenty of my money.
Go to Midway USA and use their search tool. Choose Optics, Rifle Scopes, Centerfire Scopes. Now select a low minimum power.
Look through the results. Then DM @schmalts here and see what he can do for you if you find something you like.
My choice would be the Leupold VX-Freedom 2-7x33 if I were on a budget. I wouldn't be shy of the Burris either for this rifle.
The Redfield Wide field line is great. I have a straight 6x on an 881 Marlin .22. Fantastic scope but I don't know how much recoil it would take. A 3x9 would be very nice.A 3x9 Redfield Widefield would be my recommendation.
