A 3x9 Redfield Widefield would be my recommendation.

Grew up with my Dad shooting one of those as a kid, the infamous Mississippi Wound-a-Matic as they were known in these parts, though not in his case as his actually shot surprisingly well without the common issues they’re known for. Sadly, standard era optics would have been a Bushnell or Tasco in a set of see-thru mounts.

All kidding aside, love the suggestion of a Redfield Widefield and would add standard Weaver rings/bases or Redfields for that look.

Dad doesn’t use his anymore, and hasn’t in many years, but it’s got a Leupold 3-9 in Redfield mounts and has managed to account for a few deer for my nephew in recent years.

My first serious rifle scope was a Gloss Weaver K6 Dual X reticle...I though it the aesthetic pinnacle of magnified aiming technology. IIRC it was 99 bucks in he mid 70's.
