Gastro Gnome - Eat Better Wherever

What are you currently reloading?

Really old selection of cartridges, nice.
Yeah but they work -

.223 Rem - Just cheap to shoot fun which is capable of hunting and range toy stuff
257 Roberts - some areas we need a 100gr bullet so the Bob does better than the .243W
7x64 - Works great with non-lead and also up to 175gr Nosler Partitions and also 180gr target rubbish for long range games
9.3x62 - Really sits down pigs and other things (285gr Norma Oryx is a great option, 250gr Accubond for a bit flatter shooting)
.44 mag - Just handy little rifle with loads from mild to wild (240gr Nosler JSP are good deer bullets I think)
.404 Jeffery - Because you sometimes need a proper 40 cal ;)

For last weekend I loaded 45 2.6 aka 45-100 for the Silver Dollar match held at the Deep Creek 1000 yard range. Ranges shot 800, 900 & 1000 yards Starline brass, BR 2 primer, 86 grains Swiss 1 1/2, .060 Fiber wad under a 535 grain Creedmoor cast 20-1 lead tin.

This weekend I'm loading 45 2.1 aka 45-70 for the Big Whiskey match east of Reed Point. The load is Starline brass, BR 2 primer, 67.0 grains OE 2f, .060 fiber wad under the 535 grain Creedmoor bullet. This is a silhouette match shot at 200, 300, 380 & 500 meters

Also loading 40-65 for the NW Regionals at the Deep Creek range. The load is Starline brass, Federal 210 primer, Swiss 1 1/2 58 grains, .060 fiber wad under a Brook 420 grain bullet. This will be 4 days of silhouette match. 2 days iron sights and 2 days scope.

This will be it for this year in our area. Then I'll concentrate on archery and rifle seasons. Oh don't forget Muzzle loader season. LOL couldn't resist ;)

Thanks to @nhenry, @Backofbeyond, i loaded up some 25-06 to finally shoot this Ruger 77 MKII that i bought almost a month ago. Backof

Some new old stock 120gr Sierra HPBT GameKings over RL19.

Also loaded up some 115 Berger VLD over RL17 for the 25 WSSM.

.284 Win.

It's my latest build and I haven't even shot it yet. I'm hoping I'll be able to get something worked out in time to use it some this fall. We'll see. Got a handful of options to start with, but I'm leaning towards 140gn Sierra Gamekings and Varget for my first combo.

7mm Rem Mag 150 grain ELD-X with IMR 4350. Testing which powder weight to use for the most accurate group now. I will be ordering some .308 dies and .264 dies in the next month or two so I can have some extra rounds on hand for rifle season in November. Just starting reloading this year and I'm hooked.

My 10 year old daughter shot this @200 with her Ruger American in 243.

Anyone looking for a good 243 deer load, this would be a decent place to start. We have 3 243’s. It works decent in all 3 of them.

42 grains rl19 and a 100 grain Interlock.

After pouring powder and flinging copper Friday and Saturday I shot some groups today. 2” @200 seems to be about what I am getting from my 270 and 280 projects.

The 270 is a late 70’s early 80’s model 70 featherweight with a 20 year old 3-9 leupold on it. 56.8 grains of IMR 4350, 59 grains of IMR 4350, and RL19 with a 117 hammer hunter. All three look pretty similar on the target.

The 280 is around a year 2000 mato with a 1 year old VX5 2-10 on it. 59 grains of IMR 4350, 60 of RL 19, and 54 of varget with a 120 hammer hunter. All look pretty similar on the target.

While those would work for hunting, I would like to think those groups could tighten up a bit.

Archery season ended early for my hunting partner, not in a good way, so I found myself with a free day.

Loaded up (25) .300 PRC with 215 Bergers over 79.9 gr of H-1000 for my target loads - also can be used for hunting in a pinch. This load shoots .5 MOA out of my rifle so hard to abandon it.

Also loaded up (50) .300 PRC with 199 gr Hammer Hunters over 79.1 gr of H-1000 for sight-in and drop checks. This is what I plan on hunting with for my elk tag this fall.

Trying to figure out which of these manbuns I'm gonna kill a elk with this year. 120gr ttsx, 140gr accubond, or 160gr interlock all loaded with H4350. They're all shooting very well out to 475 yards with the ttsx edging the others out slightly in accuracy.

Just got through loading up 52 (I had an odd number of new Starline casings) 270 Win: 140gr Horn BTSP IL, 58 H4831, CCI 200, 3.667” CBTO (I guess it’s technically 2.667”, but I use the readout from the comparator instead of subtracting the 1”). That load shoots pretty well in my gun, even on an improvised bench in the rain today.

I’ve included pics from a couple of weeks ago to go along with today’s group. It’s repeatable.

That gun also likes the same setup with 51gr I4350. Everything else is the same. One from today and one from a couple of weeks ago. Similar POI as the H4831 load, but about 150fps slower. The bigger group is actually a mix of 51 and 52.5 I4350, but they all dropped just inside of 1”

The plan was to actually shoot the Ruger 77 MKII in 25-06 yesterday.
But rain & overcast kept me from it.

Instead i cleaned the rifle (6 hours). And loaded up some 9mm to test.

90 & 125gr Sig V Crowns over Alliant BE86.

The 90 grain should really zing along!

25-06
87gr Speer TNT over:
47.7 gr W760 = 3171 fps
55.8 gr H4831SC = 3161 fps
45.0 gr IMR 4166 = 3163 fps
3 shot averages and on the slow side for a 25-06 but all sub MOA.

Win 270 brass necked down, CCI 200, 3.115" COAL. Savage Axis II, 22" barrel and Leupold 4.5-14 x 40.

I use the 4350s for lighter bullets and 4831 for 110 and up.
Dad liked the 87 TNT over 58gr of H4350 going 3380

Loading up some 308 Win with FC brass and 125gr Sierras with Imr3031 trying to find an accurate reduced recoil load for a youth hunter.. Plus could be used by me for an early antlerless hunt in 2 weeks..

My ticket for that bullet weight has been RL7 or H4895 for youth/starter loads. Those loads are more effective than people give them credit for

I know but I'm in possession of a substantial amount of 3031 and I have loaded it in several 308 loads before with great success. So I am using what I have.. BTW I'm looking for around 2900-3000 fps with this load..

More 25-06 stuff.
First time gun has seen any of these and starting loads for all. Trying various things out.
100 grain Speer HP w/ IMR 4350, H4831 SC and W760.
117 grain Sierra Game King w/IMR 4350 and H4831 SC.

Details on pic.
