PEAX Equipment

What are you currently reloading?

I've often thought of buying a cheap .270 Win., converting it to .270AI and fireforming about 500 cases. Then I would be able to trim them to 2.494 and have 6.5-06 cases of the proper length. AI cases hardly ever grow in length once they're formed. I've never tried resizing .280AI cases, but the less you need to reduce neck diameter the better. Using .30-06 cases would be a 2 step process. .30 - .28 - .26

That’s what I was thinking. If you could neck down a .280 AI, you may be able to skip the fire form.

I know absolutely nothing about the 6.5-06 AI round, but it’s piqued my interest.

Both the .270 Win and the .280 Rem are about 0.050 longer than the .30-06 and all of its offspring. The .280 Rem has its increased length in the base to shoulder while the .270 Win has it added to neck length. So in addition to resizing the neck of the .280, you'd also need to move the shoulder back by about 0.050 inches. After fire forming the AI case usually ends up being 0.012 - 0.015 inches shorter than the parent .30-06 case. Another option is to size the .270 case [sans expander ball] in a .25-06 die fire form using the fast pistol powder method or maybe close to half a case full of something like 2400. You should be able to chamber a sized .270 case in a 6.5 -06 chamber without the issues that excessive neck length can cause. Could be one might have to drop down to a .24-06 sizing die.

Today was spent loading 185gr Sierra JHP for the 45ACPs i have.
Plus some 90gr Sig V Crowns for the Walther PPS in 9mm.
Plus 125gr V Crowns for the H&K VP9.

Along with internet searching for scope, rings, base, dies, & brass for the new Weatherby Mark V Weathermark LT in 7mm Weatherby i picked up yesterday.

Tonight I'm going to be loading for my new 7-08 for the first time.
I want to use H4350 and 140gr E-Tips.
Anyone used this combo before?

Loaded up 5 - .30-06 with Varget and the 137gr. Hammer Hunters yesterday. Using the Barnes load data for the 130 gr. TTSX I took the max (56.5 gr) and progressively dropped back .5 gr each case - case #5 has 56.5 gr, case #1 has 54.5 gr.

I'm trying to work up a load for my dad's '06 that he handed down. It's a early 80's M70 Carbine. 20" pencil barrel, super light, great to carry; can be a bit punishing to shoot for an extended amount of time.

I have no idea yet I'm getting a 7wsm built and in the process of getting components. Can't source accubonds or partitions. Looking at E-tip, TTSX, and CX.

tonight 6.5 prc, New ADG brass, .262 mandrel run through it, Fed 210M primer, 56.5 RL26 and a 139 scenar. 50 rounds for plinking on the weekend. Will tweak powder charge next summer after I have 300 of the ADG brass shot once, but I'm getting around 1/2" five shot group at 200m so it's as good as I can ask for.
Ya, I guess that’ll do. If your into that kind of thing.

Playing with a 17” barreled 6.5 pic. Already have a load for hunting season just playing around right now with some 109 grain absolute hammers and powders that haven’t been tried yet

Working on loads for my wife's Browning X bolt in 7mm08. Norma brass, CCI mag primers, 44gr of Varget topped with a 120gr Barnes TTSX. Hopefully it is as easy as my X Bolt in .308 to get a accurate load for!

What kind of velocities are you getting with the 17” barrel? More or less of a drop than you expected?
